Today, I woke up early so that I could go join the Maumee Valley Wheelmen's Breakfast Ride. Unfortunately, my stomach, which has been rather touchy lately, informed me that I'd be better served by staying close to a toilet. So, I went over and fed the dog I'm watching for the weekend, and came back home. Two more hours of sleep made me feel better. Just about the time that I was contemplating getting dressed and doing the Sunday Getaway Ride, my girlfriend sent me a text message informing me that there were whitecaps on the lake. I reached out to Ryan and John to see if anyone else was interested. Ryan was working, but John bit. I got to MBSP around 12:30 to find steady 15MPH wind and one windsurfer. He was on an 8 meter sail and 115 liter board... wide board. It was a wide board. He told me so 3 times. I figure that's important enough to make sure it gets into the post, since he told me three times that it's a wide board.
John showed up a short time later, just in time to launch my kite. It sure didn't feel very windy, initially. I sent the kite back/forth a couple times doing some land-jumps before I felt confident that there was enough wind to play. Completely forgetting about the little kid's kite flying on the beach, I made my way to the water. Apparently, I walked right into it with my lines. Not crossing its lines with mine, but getting the actualy single-line sled tangled in my line. Weird. John came over and assisted with removing the hanger-on and I was off to play in the water.
3/2 wetsuit, booties, 13 Meter Slingshot Fuel and Mahem board made for a great day on the water.
