Ellicott City 2005-07-12 |
This weekend I visited Talix at her house. We had a great time and, as usual, the weekend was over way too quickly. We ventured out a couple of times and during my sojourn and on one of those occasions she showed me the little town closest to her house, called Ellicott City. Ellicot City is a small historic district which has many small shops (mostly craft/specialty shops) and some very cool old buildings. Here is a picture of the main road through Ellicott City.

As we were walking along, we saw this guy whom, at first glance, appeared to be painting a view of the front of the store.
However, as we got closer, we saw that he was not using the store-front as a reference. *shrug*
One of the most interesting things that I saw in Ellicott City was the high water markings from previous floods. The street that you see in the pictures above slopes down to a creek and then, on the other side of the creek, the road climbs again. Just before the creek, on the "city side", there is a railroad bridge. On that bridge, there is the high-water marks.
I have circled the highest of those high-water marks.
Here, you can see many marks where they've noted floods of significance. I can't even imagine what would go through the minds of business owners going down to check out their stores after a big rain.
And, finally, you can see that people in MD follow directions just as well as the rest of the country.

sopops Tue Jul 12 06:55:35 PM Mom on pops 'puter as mine has gone to bed already. That is so kind of you (grammer wise and I hope spelling as well.) You are a good kid & we both love you.
We had a great t- storm this afternoon with 1.5 inches of rain. It is great to sit on the lanai, doing crossword puzzles and keeping our eyes on the sky too. Love those storms!
Pops is smiling big tonight - I think he was worried more than he let on.
Good night - you you all - Mom Reply |
BizB Tue Jul 12 05:01:38 PM I didn't make note of it because it hadn't been mentioned on here thus far.
For those of you who don't know, 'fer was awarded a full time position in the Geek Squad for all of his hard work. This comes at a great time - with the baby on the way and all - as he will get medical insurance as part of the deal. And, they pay tuition, too! He's guaranteed 32 hours per week and will likely get closer to 40 hours on a regular basis. His schedule will still fluctuate, but he's going to have to deal with that if he's going to work "retail".
I'm very proud of him, too! He is making good impressions everywhere he goes. This solid work-ethic will take him far; I hope.
Good catch on the grammar! I had origninally written that as "on that bridge there is a collection of high-water marks" and then re-worded it. That seems to bite me in the ass from time to time... rewording things. I'll leave it as is so you can continue to be right. And, as a bonus, I won't point out the thing that is wrong with your post .
The *shrug* was just... ummmm... shrugging off the confusion over what the guy was painting. Sort of saying, "No biggie." I guess. Reply |
Betty Boop Tue Jul 12 04:30:13 PM Not often I get to catch you BUT in your sentence - "on that bridge there is the hight water marks" it should be "there are - etc." One for my side!
What was the reference to "shrug" as we don't know what you mean.....but the pictures are wonderful, clear and even pretty. I fell in love with that in street in Ellicot City.... could be any town, anywhere. They have made use of the stores instead of closing them down.
No comment from you on your son's acomplishemnt. We were sworn to secrecy and were able to keep our promise - although it was hard at times. We are so proud of your boy - who is fast becoming a man. Reply |
BizB Tue Jul 12 01:49:33 PM w00t! Good news all around today!
I just got off the phone with the billing person at Dr. Tapper's office. My vasectomy is covered in full by my inusrance plan.
This was a huge fear lifted. The cost of said procedure is $1,300 + if I didn't have coverage.
