Law School 2006-01-03 |
Today, I informed my boss that I will be returning to school to get a Law degree from the University of Toledo Law School. He is investigating the possibility that TNS will reimburse me for the cost of tuition to the tune of $4,000/year. According to the policy, the course must be something that would help me in my current position, or it must be part of a degree program, or it could be geared toward filling a position within the company which my manager believes I can fill.
A JD is clearly a "degree program" and TNS has a legal department into which someone could move after getting such a degree. Unfortunately, the policy also indicates that the program must be approved by the manager and department VP, so they have the ability to say, "No, we're not paying."
No matter what, I'm going. If they won't pay for any part of it, I'll just borrow that much more. Even if I have to borrow the entire $39K, it would mean an additional $300 (or so) per month in student loan payments. Clearly having a law degree will more than cover that $300/month cost increase with additional earning potential. According to the US govt. site that I found, Toledo area law graduates can expect to earn $80K by 6 months after graduation and as much as $120K within 5 years (that's the median amount - the low end after 5 years was in the 90Ks.)
The next step is to contact the school and make sure that my current degree is all I need to qualify. Then, I'll get the various practice material in preparation of taking the LSAT test. Then study, study, study study,study,study,study,study.... |

Betty Boop Sat Jan 07 01:34:07 PM Big Bro - so glad that you appreciated the joke - I know you grinned, 'cause you grin and then groan, at Bob's jokes. I told it at lunch and got big laughs!! We are really wierd here in Homo...FL
Is your doggy feeling better today? Reply |
Betty Boop Sat Jan 07 08:59:45 AM Talix - if you take yogurt it may just counteract the antibiotics. See, the antibiotics kill the good bacteria we need in our digestive system and the yogurt puts 'em back in. Worth a try. Reply |
BigBro Sat Jan 07 08:59:14 AM BBoop that was a Joke my father-in-law would love.... He would be telling everyone, and I mean everyone.
If he starts telling that one I'll know who to blame!
Shame on you Reply |
Talix18 Sat Jan 07 08:21:39 AM Well, my sinuses are much better, but the antibiotics I'm on are tearing my system to shreds. I have four more days to go... Reply |

BizB Fri Jan 06 09:05:37 PM Wow... you really can't see those deer at all. When I came out of work today, there were 3 deer in the field next to the parking lot.
And, today was a "bread day"! When I walked from the truck to the building, the wind was out of the northwest which brings the bread smell from the Hostess plant directly over to our building. I love that smell. Reply |
Betty Boop Fri Jan 06 03:57:01 PM Talix - u feel better yet? Hope so. No magic cures though - just good wishes. Reply |

Betty Boop Wed Jan 04 12:17:33 PM glad to read it. This may just wake him up. Reply |
BizB Wed Jan 04 10:02:07 AM Nope. I have not gotten anything from 'fer with respect to his plans. I told him I would not hound him about it. I did make one mention of it just before the new year, but that's it.
I need to make sure he knows that rent is due on or before the 15th of each month, though. That, and the fact that the $200/month for the past 5 months isn't going to go away.
As to his plan(s), if I don't get anything from him, at least I'll know that he will accomplish every goal that he set (none). If I do get a plan, I'll do everything that I can to make sure he accomplishes those goals.
Feh. Reply |
Betty Boop Wed Jan 04 09:16:01 AM Biz, we are so proud of you - my heart is bursting with it. Best of luck to you.
Now, how do we get 'fer going? Have you asked him about his plans? If these questions annoy you - don't bother with a reply - it is not my intention to get you going. I love you so much. Ma Reply |
