Nationals Day 2 2006-03-06 |
Sunday... Early start. Really early 6:45 wake up and 7:15 departure. At least I wasn't alone. There was a whole lobby full of people . Most of those folks rode the bus. I walked the 2 miles or so. Along the way, I looked down the side streets to see what I could see and I spotted that monument near the hardrock so I took a short detour. The monument is very tall and has a lot of detail. I didn't get any scoop on it other than what I was able to read on the front. There weren't any tour guides available - probably because it was 7am - and I didn't want to hang around too long. Though, I was able to get a couple of good pics of it and determine that the monument is dedicated to dead guys with guns, like many of our favorite tourist attractions.
As I mentioned in the last update, much of the time at Nationals is spent waiting. Here, the girls are waiting for the small-size team to start their routine - - and, as you can see, it's not exactly "fun" all the time . Here are some shots of the small-size-sparks. They're 5 years old or less.

After small-size was done, there was more waiting . Though, during this period, the girls had something to do and watch. Namely, they could watch one of the teams that the small-size girls competed against. Here they are - - each of these girls did a backhandspring and a couple of them did back flips. There was no way we were going to win. Though, not everyone was entertained by watching cheerleading for the second day in a row . Abbie, for one, was more more entertained by me and the camera while the rest of us watched more cheer teams competing
Next up, BBCK's dance team performed their routine for day 2. Here are some shots of that...

As soon as they were done with dance, they had to RUN to a different hall and perform their cheer routine. They actually had to wait for BBcK's team. Here are some pics of that...

After they were done, it was time to walk back to the hotel to check out. While I was there, I moved the truck so I could get out more easily. The parking garage was very close to being too short for me to get into , but I made it. I left the truck at the hotel and walked back to the convention center for the awards ceremony (I'm a cheap ass and I didn't want to pay to park again). At the awards, they bring all the girls who competed in that category onto the floor. They start by tossing beads into the crowd and then they have them sit and wait to hear where they placed . The kids who are not on the floor are left to socialize even more Competitors' younger siblings are often pooped by then . When they're called to the stand, they pose for pictures and then vacate the stage area . Of course, there are always opportunities to gather the team back together and take more pictures

Yup... that's my girl.. . |
BizB Sat Mar 11 09:18:05 AM The fence incident was 3 stitches. When I punched out the back window to get inside, that didn't require any stitches.
It's almost 30 years later and I still remember looking into that gaping wound on my wrist before it had filled with blood. There were lots of stringee looking white things that resembeled spaghetti running lengthwise through the cut. Those, for the purposes of my story telling, were tendons.
I also remember you sitting holding my left hand while I avoided looking over to my right arm which was strapped to something that extended from the side of the table. I remember telling the dr to let me know before he started and he laughed and said, "I'm almost done. Just need to apply dressing."
Oh, and yes... I'm feeling quite a bit better today. Reply |
Betty Boop Sat Mar 11 08:54:14 AM gosh, biz, hope you feel better this morning. 48 hours is enough, don't you think?
p.s. your tendons were not exposed, it just felt that way. No stitches, remember, just a bandage - at least that is how I remember it. I do know it hurt you though, so I will give you that.
Warm & Humid here this a.m. so we have done our walk already and now I am all showered and smelling nice again, for a while. Hope to have lunch with our friends today. We have been so busy with appts, etc. we didn't see them much this past week.
Have a "be kind to yourself day". Love, mom Reply |
BizB Fri Mar 10 07:35:35 PM People go to the ER for the flu?
Feh.
I remember the good old days when you'd have to rip a hole in your wrist while teasing your older brother to earn a trip to the ER. Or, injure your ankle jumping off some garage roof. The flu? Sleep it off, ya wimps. Talk to me when you've seen the tendons in your wrist. Reply |
BigBro Fri Mar 10 07:17:44 PM when I was at the ER, 90% of the people where there for the flu. must be the change in the weather...

BigBro Thu Mar 09 01:51:53 PM Nimbles Jr lives on. I spent 3 hours at the ER on Monday evening. Very lucky, no stitches, but lost a bunch of skin on first 3 fingers of left hand. Not too bad, but throbs a bit, now and again. Should heal just fine.
Floors and painting are done, just need to finish hanging new doors and I'll be done with that project. Triming the bottom of the last door is what did it.
Very hard to type with 7 fingers. thank god for the backspace key. Reply |

Betty Boop Tue Mar 07 07:25:20 AM I enjoyed reading the story and looking at the pictures . . . until the last one. Wonder who taught her to do that one????
Bet you are glad to be home and sleep in your own bed, right? I think the theme of the competition is "hurry up and wait". Am I right?
