When I lived in Phoenix (1990-1991,) one of my most favorite things about that valley was the storms. During monsoon season, you could sit on the porch and watch the clouds build behind the western or southern mountain ranges. The clouds would reach epic size and produce some of the most fantastic lightning shows one could ever hope to see. Lots of times, these storms would build and build, but never break across the peak of the mountains. This typically goes on for several days before it breaks through and washes away the filth that is Phoenix's streets.

Today, at around 11am, a coworker alerted me to the fact that there is a thunderstorm watch until 8pm today. This seemed odd because the sky was absolutely clear and blue to the east, the direction to which I face at my desk. When I went to lunch, it started to make more sense to me. Before I left, I looked at the radar on intellicast.com. There was lots of green, yellow and even some read just north of the state-line. When I walked outside, This is what I saw Weather to the northeast. And, to the northwest, the scene was similar Weather. This immediately reminded me of Phoenix. The clouds seemed to be gaining height as I watched them.

On the way back from McDonalds, I snapped these 2 pics WeatherWeather and when I got back to the office, I snapped this one of the sky in the northeast. Quite a change, eh? After I was done eating, and having completed my one chore for the lunch hour, I looked out the window to the northeast. This is what I saw Weather.

The storms appear to be staying north of us, for now. They're putting a pounding on the north part of town, though.

When Thackery's closed there was no reason to keep the rest of the shopping center there. Thackery's was the only spot in there that I shopped. Browsing at B&N is not the same.

Big storms coming today.

We got rained on over night. I was awakened at 5 am by thunder. I really didn't get back to sleep very well after that.

Now, the sun is out heating all of that moisture that was delivered last night. We'll probably have severe storms this evening.

It's too bad I don't have a porch on which I can sit and watch with my (love you daddy love you daddy) dog and my Pops. Oh well... maybe in August.

Dad is having some pain now - he says the last of the anesthesia is gone and he has had to resort to pain relievers.

I just had another look of the pics above and am wondering if someone ran out and put the umbrella down?!? Such problems in my head . . . . the clouds are wonderful though.

What a lovely show of day lilies!! I suggest though in the fall that you divide them up and replant somewhere else or give a few clumps away.

FYI - dad hasn't had any pain, thus did not require any pain meds. He is following instructions and icing the knee etc.
