2 hours later... 2006-07-14 |
Yesterday, after I picked up BBCK from her mom's house, we went home as usual. BBCK got on the phone and started calling friends, as usual. After 2 calls, she had one on the line and they started making plans for getting together soon. Soon, meaning N.O.W.
BBCK asked me if I had put dinner on the grill yet. I had not. "Good!" She replied, "Can you take me over to B's house and can I spend the night so they can take us to the water park tomorrow and then they'll watch me until you get off work and you can pick me up or B's mom can deliver me home... which ever works for you... Well?" I didn't have a good reason why not, so I gave her the go-ahead. Shortly there-after, I took her over to B's house. When I returned home, I decided to throw the London Broil on the grill despite the fact that I'd be eating it alone. Cold London Broil is good as left-overs any way. I fired up the grill and put the meat on. Then, I went inside and started my usual web-surfing routine. I visited my favorite sites in the order that I usually do. When I got to the wind site which displays current wind conditions across western Lake Erie, I got excited because I saw some 10 and 12 mph winds. That's kite-able! Since I didn't have BBCK any more, there really was no reason why I couldn't go play in the wind. So, I did.
Two hours later, on the way back from MBSP, as I passed Mr. Beefy's on Rt 2 in Oregon, I smelled steak and I though, "I'm hungry."
OH SHIT!
I had left the steak on the grill. I called Tal to calm my nerves while I continued on my journey back to what may have been the charred remains of my home - at worst - or at the very least, the charred remains of my steak. I was seriously scared because the grill sits right next to the house on the deck.
I got lucky. The steak was a charred lump about 1/3 its original size and the grill had run out of gas, but the house was fine. I had chicken patties for dinner. |
