Last night, after I had posted the update, I had a nice hour-long conversation with Tal. After hanging up, I decided to check out the wind forecast one more time. You never know when the forecast for the next few days will change and I'm addicted to knowing the wind forecast. I logged on to my site and clicked the link for the ikitesurf page. The new window opened, but nothing loaded. I hit refresh. I waited. I hit refresh. I repeated. Then, at the bottom right of the screen, where Microsoft tells you all the things you need to know about your computer, a pop-up appeared and informed me that I had no wireless connection. I thought, that's odd.
Now in investigation mode, I hopped up and took a look at the router. There were no lights blinking on the front. That's odd, I thought and may have even said out-loud. Since the router is plugged into a power strip, I checked to make sure that the power light was illuminated on the power strip. It wasn't lit. I flipped the switch off and on and nothing changed. Well, that's just strange! Maybe the power strip is bad? I unplugged the power strip and the router. I plugged the router directly into the wall outlet. Still not blinky-blinky on the front of the router. Maybe tis the wall outlet that is bad!? I dragged the router plug over to the other outlet on that wall and plugged it in. Nothing. Well. Oh! Perhaps it's a blown circuit breaker!
Now on a mission, I trotted down the basement steps and made my way through the obstacle course carefully laid out by BBCK in order to break dad's legs. Arriving at the breaker box, I looked for a breaker switch that was pointing in the wrong direction. None were. Okay, well... Hmmmm. Not about to give up, I began on the top right working my way down the column of switches moving them from the "on" position to the "off" position and then back again. The sixth breaker felt very weak when I flipped it to the off position. When I pushed it back to the on position, there was a flash of blue and the smell of ozone. That's not good. I'm sure I said that out-loud. Let's try it again! Same result. One more time! Same result.
Not wanting to fit the definition of insane, I stopped flipping the breaker on and off and went to see if I could find something that was shorting out the circuit.

- The 2 outlets on the wall where the router was are both empty and both dead.
- The outlet controlled by the switch at the front door has the lamp plugged in and is dead (unplugged lamp)
- The outlet behind the TV is working just fine
- On the remaining wall, one of the two outlets is working. The other has the laptop and phone charger plugged into it. (unplugged both)

- All outlets dead (unplugged everything)
- Closet light dead
- Main light working
- Hall light dead
- Bathroom
- Light dead
- Outlet works (nothing plugged in)
- Fan works
- 'fer's room
- All outlets dead (unplugged tv)
- Light dead
- Closet light dead
- Kitchen
- All outlets work
- All lights work
- My bedroom
- North wall - both outlets dead
- South wall - one outlet dead. one working.
- East wall - outlet dead
- Overhead lights dead
- Closet light dead
- Basement
- 2 of three lights working
- Washer/dryer working
Did I mention that this was all on one 15 amp breaker switch?
I switched breakers for that wire and the same blue light and same sweet smell of ozone resulted. Following that wire out of the breaker box led me to a junction box with 3 inputs. Inside, a mess. I didn't tear into that yet. I figure I can do it Saturday or Sunday when there's light and time.
Meanwhile, I slept on the couch. I may be able to use extension cords to hook up everything upstairs tonight. I'm going to try. If I can't, I'll pump up the air mattress. I'm sure not going to spend another night on the couch.
