The article that Rev spoke of...

Princess-B and BBCK, 9 and 8 years old respectively are serious about helping the poor.
After their teacher talked in class one day about helping the less fortunate, they realized that something needed to be done. A recess-time decision was made.
The third-graders began collecting donations for the Cherry Street Mission. Some money came from helping neighbors with odd jobs, some came from lemonade stands and other collections in their neighborhood and some was gathered from friends and family.
All $70.29 was personally delivered in May to the Cherry Street Mission by the third-graders, who then received a tour of the facility from Rodney Schuster, Cherry Street Mission director of development.
Mr. Schuster said he is always happy to give tours of the facility. "I get to share with them the reality of the work," he explained.
Though everyone has a perception of what a homeless shelter is, he said, they don't usually understand until they visit.
"I'm really overjoyed that parents and children make the effort to inform children of how life is for other people," he added.
The girls were taken behind the scenes at the shelter on 17th Street in Toledo. They saw "thousands of clothes" and other supplies, according to Princess-B.
To be more precise, BBCK said the mission has 114.5 tons of clothing and 15.7 tons of food."
After their visit, Princess-B and BBCK gave a 45-minute presentation complete with a PowerPoint show of photos and facts during their religion class. They shared stories about some of the shelter residents that made an impact on them, such as a young man who is a successful student at the University of Toledo.
The two girls, friends since kindergarten, were finishing sentences for one another as they eagerly told why they wanted to do something for the poor. BBCK began to explain, "We feel they're just like us..."
"...so they should be treated like us," Princess-B quickly finished.
They displayed the statement on the back of Mr. Schuster's business card: "Everyone has a story, everyone needs an angel, we care, we can help." Princess-B said the motto of the facility is to help one life at a time.
No matter why people come to the Cherry Street Mission, there they find "someone to go talk to," said Princess-B.
She observed a friendliness in the people they encountered at the shelter. "sometimes I think the richer you are, the more poor in the heart you are," she said. "And sometimes the poorer you are the nicer you are."
The two girls said many people inspired them to take action, particularly their parents. Princess-B's parents are both nurses, and her father worked in the south with hurricane victims.
Their teacher pointed to the influence of the good role models they see in their parents, as well as a chapter in class they covered about helping other people.
The school's principal said he was impressed when he learned what the third-graders did.
He added that the student body as a whole is very involved in outreach -- last school year alone they raised nearly $5,000 for hurricane relief and other charities.
As for BBCK and Princess-B, they have set a summer goal of raising $200 more in donations -- a task that might even require selling their Nintendo Game Boys, they said. They also will apply to volunteer at the Cherry Street Mission Community Center and Food Services building.
BBCK explained, "We feel people should help the poor because once you do it, you'll feel so good.

okay - I'll butt out. I have never owned a cat so what do I know? I think I have a fear of them due to my childhood friend being very badly hurt by her cat scratching her in the eye and then another time on her arm and she had to keep her arm in a sling. The eye scratch was really traumatic and they were two different cats. I have also seen really bad results of deep cat scratches in the ER. I've also seen dog bites, so there ya have it. I guess pet ownership is always a chance you take, but brings more joy than anything else. I guess the bottom line is that I have majored in child-worry. Remember, I'm old now and I've earned the right to "express my worry now and then, knowing that no one will listen to me anyway. We got lots of advice from our grands too, and shook it off like you two are probably doing. lol

I do love the name you've chosen for her. It's darling. And good suggestion, BizB - watch out for the air sucking thing! That's a whole other problem -- just kidding!

The only time Diz ever did anything, it was his teeth that he dug into the back of BBCK's hand. She was 3 at the time. She still remembers it. Traumatic.

Please dont do the D-claw thing. A cats only defense is its claws abd I have never heard of a cat hurting a baby more than once, the child soon learn when the cat says enough teasing is enough. We have never D-clawed a creature

While you're at it, you should get her lungs removed so that the kitty doesn't sit on the baby's chest and steal her breath!

I'm suchajackass.

I only have one pic of the kitty. And that one is the back of her head. 'fer and B - are you getting her declawed so she doesn't scratch the little one on the face? I hope so. (I'm a great granny - I have earned the right to worry!)

The name is sneaker. She sneaks around the house a lot. hides all over the place. I was going to call tonight and see if you minded. Brooke just told me we were getting a kitten last night. She went and picked it up today.

Betty Boop, you mentioned that you had sent an email to BBCK. When she checked, it wasn't there.

Can you send it again and copy me on it so that I know she'll get it?

So, Fer - what is it's name? I agreed to take care of the four kids but nothing was said about a kitty!

BBCK, we are all very proud of what you did to help others. Not many adults will take the time to help others even when we have the money. What you did was very special and you and your girl friend both deserve to be recognized for what you did.
