On our way to CP, BBCK and I made a side trip to look at the house that burned. The only thing still standing was the chimney.
Those poor* people lost everything.
* When I used that phrase (those poor people..) speaking to BBCK, she said, "Oh, they were poor, too? That's sad." I had to explain that these people had a house on the lake and that the property alone, even without a house standing on it, was worth way more than everything we own. These people were by no means "poor".

I sent the pics to WTOL, too. They called me shortly after that and made sure the pics were of the fire they were covering (they were). I fell asleep before the news, so I have no idea if they used them or not.

you understood it from context, but this seems fairly odd use of Midland. Maybe in an alterante universe "Midland" is a very average county in England that had a "Fair" that was worth mentioning.  That sounds about right...
