I noticed, just the other day, that the newest member at my granddaughter's website is none other than my first wife and absent mother of my favorite son.
Gaul.
Unmitigated.
This got me to wondering just how much in money I have in the "I'll-never-see-a-dime" child support account. The answer was shocking. I don't quite know what amount I expected to hear, but I wasn't expecting a figure quite this large. I mean, she was only ordered to pay a little more than double what I currently pay to BBCK's mom. And, she only had to pay it for 13 years of Chris's life. Plus, it's not like she didn't pay ANY support over the years. There have been a few times when I'd get a check here or there.
When I spoke to my case worker I cleared up some other issues I was curious about, too. California, as well as the other 49 states, are all part of a "new employee reporting system." This system requires each employer to notify the state whenever a W4 is filled out for a new employee. The state is then responsible for informing said employer as to that employee's child support obligation, or non-obligation. I was curious about this because I'd heard of the W4 reporting requirement, but it does seem like the only time that I ever get any money from Cathy is when she begins collecting unemployment. And, the only reason that I know the money is being withheld from her unemployment is because the pittance that I receive is a paltry $20 per week. This is unfortunate, but joy-giving. $20 doesn't mean diddly to me. I look at it as found money... like putting on your winter jacket in the fall and finding a roll of life savers. Or something like that. I'm quite sure, however, that twenty dollars being withheld from her unemployment irks Cathy to no end. That part brings me joy.
Since this debt continues beyond the year that Chris reached majority, I wondered if it ever expired. Turns out, it does. Or, rather, it can. Sue, my case worker, assured me that if it does reach the point where California says that they're no longer going to consider the case active, she can fill out reams of paper work and make it so that Ohio can continue to collect on it. She assured me that anything like that would be brought to my immediate attention so that I can make the decision. I'll do whatever it takes to keep this alive. Not because I need the money, but because Cathy needs a reminder once in a while that she has a son in Ohio whom she has neglected for most of his life.
Another query I made was in regards to one's Social Security benefits being attached once they're eligible to receive them. Since the only time I ever seem to see a dime is when it's being withheld from some government agency's contribution to Cathy's well-being, I was wondering if I could ever count on regular checks. Here's the deal on child support payments drawn from Social Security income. So long as she qualifies for regular Social Security at retirement age, and not SSI, they will attach those payments and I will get checks... assuming that there is such a thing as Social Security when she reaches that age... whatever age that will be.

That's the figure, roughly. And, from what I understand, California charges interest on top of that. I don't know what interest rate, but it doesn't matter. Like I said, it's not about the money. Though, $37,000 would almost pay for my law degree. Now, if only I could find a way to convince the state to trade me tuition for money that they'll never collect from her.
Cathy gave up so much to avoid paying that money to me. I sure hope it was worth it. I, however, wouldn't give up one moment with Chris for an additional penny of that money. Chris is one of my favorite people in the whole world and raising him was worth way more than a few thousand dollars. |

I went for many years with cordisone shots, would recommend no more than 3
More years with phy therapy and finaly surgery.
There is no need to suffer.

Rev - Not sure about the torn rotator cuff but think it shows up in our mobility when they ask you to move certain ways. I also had a spur which showed up on x-ray. For sure one things that helps is to lighten up your purse if you carry a heavy one.

I'm so glad things are improving for sopops! You know what they say, youth is wasted on the young.
Speaking of pain; now, in addition to the occasional pain in my right shoulder, my left shoulder hurts.
The weird thing is that I haven't done anything that would injure my shoulder... as far as I know.
How do they diagnose a torn rotator cuff?

POPS seems to be doing better today. He has spent some time at the computer trying to catch up with his duties as secretary of our Home Owners assoc. The most at any time since his surgery. He is back on the heating pad again now. As I mentioned before, the knee is doing great. The rest of the stuff is just going to take some time to get used to. Golden years, indeed!
Love the pix of BBCK. She looks pensive, doesn't she?
Also, there are new pix of Miss M. Yippee. What a darling girl.
