It has been a while since my last update, so I thought I'd write a few words to keep my regulars happy.
Yesterday
...I had my decision made for me with regards to my transportation options in the coming 18 months. I must get another car, sometime soon. Of that, there is no doubt. Unfortunately, I suspect that it's going to be a bit less of a car than I'd hoped for. I should begin looking at used cars soon.
BBCK had a friend spend the night and I was amazed to find them both sawing logs by 11:00pm. Usually, when pre-teen girls get together for overnights, they stay awake far too long and well after I've retired for the night.
Today
BBCK went to play with a different friend so I had a chance to go play. I put the blades on the mountainboard, packed the truck with my kites and put on a couple of layers of cold-weather wear. Then, I made the 60 minute drive to Sand Lake in the Irish Hills of Michigan. I don't know what it is about that lake, but it seems to freeze quicker and stay frozen longer than any other local body of water. When I arrived, I counted at least 2 dozen ice-boat sails. Most of them were still setting up along the shore. Though, many were out digging grooves into the ice at amazing speeds, considering the light wind. I walked out a couple of hundred feet and set up my gear. I chose the 9 meter kite which, on the water, is only good in winds above 20mph. On the ice, 10-15 is plenty of wind for the 9. I had only forgotten one piece of equipment and I regretted that almost instantly. The lack of knee pads left me in pain as I slid across the ice when I first launched the kite. I didn't stay long. I dropped the kite when the wind lulled and it fell "inside out" crossing the lines and making it necessary to land and re-walk my lines. Once I disconnected the lines, I decided to just call it a day. Kiting alone just isn't anywhere near as fun as kiting with friends. On the way home, I stopped and got my hair cut. Short. Again. A shower, a nap, and a couple of dbl cheese burgers later, I wish I had stayed longer. I enjoyed putting a kite in the air and I found that the ice-mountainboard works really well, but that was a lot of driving for a very short play time.
On another, completely unrelated note... I took a reading test today because one of the keys to doing well on standardized tests such as the LSAT is the ability to read quickly. I read VERY slowly. I've always known that. I'm guilty of just about every poor-reading habit known to man. Most people read 250-300 words per minute. The fastest speed reader reads 2,500 WPM. Your average person that participates in a speed reading course can increase their speed to 600-1000 WPM. I'm going to strive for 500 WPM. If I can get there, I'll be very happy. My starting point is 140 WPM. I took a couple of different tests and they all came out in that 135-145 range. If I can get beyond 500, I'll be amazed.
Tomorrow
BBCK and I are going to get up early and go snowboarding to celebrate her awesome grade card. She earned the trip by earning all "A"s. We're probably going to go to Mt. Holly, in Michigan. It'll be cold enough this time that we won't get rained out. That's for sure. Today was the last day for temperatures above freezing for some time. Of course, that means that next weekend, I'll make the trip to Sand Lake, again. That is, unless ice nearby thickens, or we get snow making it possible to play closer to home.
Something to ponder. Ford Motor company lost $24K every minute in 2006. That's equivalent to one Mustang GT every 60 seconds. Imagine the good will they could have generated by giving away FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND Mustang GTs. Or, even better, a million Ford Focus at $12K each. |

added two partitions to the addition, one to make a laundry room out of the west end and another one to create the half bath in the north east corner. The plumber should be finishing up today or tomarrow. The drywaller can then finish his work, and then the elec. can be finalized. Add some paint and flooring, a bit of trim and we will be done. (for now)
The kitchen will need to be given a facelift, and then we can tackle the basement.

We had 2/5 inches of rain last night with lots of thunder and a bit of lightening and a power outage for 6 hours but we are back to normal (well as normal as we ever were) now.
Good to know that you got all moved Big Bro - and thanks to the others who helped. There is nothing like family as you will find out as you get along in years - even more so if you are away from family. HINT - keep those pix coming!

I just finished after 2 and a half days. I go back to work in the AM to relax. Biz and Fer were both great help, esp. Fer who helped me most of the day yesterday and My kid who spent part of yesterday and all day today. I've been blessed with just the help I needed just when I needed it. It took a bit of pleading and downright begging but it got done. I was so glad to get shut the door and get in the truck to go home. I've been tired before but not this sore and tired lately. The snow was not a problem, and kept things crisp and clean looking. Just got my feet wet and cold.
To all who helped, much thanks... I couldn't have done it myself.

Big Bro - how did you make out getting moved? Hope your bro and nephew were able to help out even just a little. I must admit, you seemed to pick terrible days to do it. We saw the snow on the camcorders we check out! We'll talk soon. LUV. ma

bigbro: I have BBCK tonight and tomorrow. She's got to be in bed by 9, or she'll turn into a pumpkin. This means I'll have to leave your house by 8:20 or so - giving her time to brush her teeth, get her jammies on and write in her journal. I don't know how much use I'd be. The earliest I could get there today is 6:30 - assuming I stop to feed us.
Tomorrow, BBCK has gymnastics and I won't be able to help at all. Sorry.
How far away from the house is your storage place?

Looks like today is moving day. At least starting to get my furniture and stuff out of storage in the lock up we rented back in Late July. We will be moving it to storage in the basement of the house (it's not ready for furniture yet). Any help at all would be welcome. This is a bug job and I'd appreciate any help at all esp. a 2nd truck to help hawl stuff to the hose.
Call Froggie's cell after 1:00 to get ahold of us, as we are going to be doing what we can today and over the next two days... I've taken vacation time to get this done but expect to be working on this well into the evenings. Boy am I going to feel old on Thursday!

BBCK - congratulations on your grades. That also earns you a shopping trip with granny when you get here. Something for both of us to look forward to, right? Thanks for the update! It's always great to get some insights on the family and what you are up to. I would say that speed reading is a must for your planned occupation so short course would be well worth the investment.
I have a new ergonomic key board and it's taking some time to adjust to. It's not one of those severe sweep ones but it does have a minor sweep to it. I am always hitting the caps lock key so I am learning to use the right hand shift key. It is wireless and this allows me to put it in my lap and assume a more comfortable position in my chair, for my back.
Knee and back are doing better and my last script pain pill was last Thursday. Friday I walked down to the Bocce ball court and watched for a few minutes. Yesterday i walked around the block for the first time. I am well pleased for the first time in 61/2 weeks and in good spirits once again.
