More work at Thumble's house 2007-03-02 |
Some pictures from yesterday and today. We started laying out the tile in the mud-room (I think that's what they call it). It's the room between the garage and the living room. The tile in this room are the same as the large tiles in the last set of pictures. We're not laying the diagonals with the little tiles in this room, thought we are using a double row of the little tiles as a border at the doorways and the top step. Here, I'm setting the full tiles.
Alan screwed down the backer-board on the steps while I spaced out the tiles.
Mrs Froggie isn't afraid to get dirty. We just wish she'd stop pushing her butt in front of the camera.
More tiles down...
BBCK took these ones. I don't know why, but I suspect that the cat was there a moment before the picture was taken.
The kitchen is still messy, but it's getting better.
The master bedroom is looking good. I love that color.
The front (spare) bedroom.
The floor in the back bathroom.
The counter top and sink in the back bathroom. I helped with both parts of that.
The tub in that bathroom. I had nothing to do with that.
..or the shower head, either.
These shelves are between the vanity and the wall in that bathroom. I put those in place. That's a really smart way to create storage space really cheaply. And, it looks awesome.
The obligatory picture of Mrs Froggie painting (blinded by the flash)
Wow... I've been busy with those tiles while you were enjoying the pictures, haven't I?
And Alan is now on the second step screwing down the backer board
The obligatory picture of Thumbles and his bandage
CC! She's in heat. Not that you'd notice, though. HA! I kill me.
Oh, back into the back bathroom again!
Now, Alan and I are cutting tiles to fit around the edges of the room
Tonight, down in the basement, BigBro and Mrs Froggie fight to keep things dry as the basement gets wetter and wetter. We got a lot of rain today. When I got home, I was greeted with a wet basement, too! Oh joy!
This is the aisle down the center of the basement. Eventually, all that crap will be upstairs.
BBCK was helping BigBro with some sweeping.
This moment was a very proud moment for me. For, you see, when I approached BBCK, I asked, "What are you doing?" To which she replied, "Sweeping! What does it look like... writing a letter?" Now, I know that's not verbatim the proper comeback for such a stupid question (the proper comeback being, "Writing a letter to my aunt Sue.",) but it was close.
sopops, here's a pic to give you nightmares... the blade of doom!
DOOM I SAY!
More Mrs Froggie ass
Look! Handsome to finish it off!
And handsome working...

MRS FROGGIE Tue Mar 13 09:48:06 AM We are making alot of progress now. The tile floor will be finished today after big bro grouts the front of the steps. The great room is Fire Weed red. The last room to paint is the masterbath and them I am finished. Our bedroom is getting the floor put in today. Then we can move our furniture into it and call it home. This we plan to by Thurs. Next we start at the far end of the house and lay floor until we get to the other end. We want that done by Sat eve. Sunday we hang doors and put shelves in the closets. After that it is molding and finishing touches. Sounds simple? NOT! Like everything else, something is bound to happen to slow the process down. We are meeting Newbus in about an hour to go pick up 35, 16ft long strips of molding. Woopee, I get to do some more painting. Biz, if you are not busy tonight, can you come over and help lay the flooring? After all your knee pads are needing you to fill them. Besides, we need to update the site with pictures of our progress.
Bro and Sis will be comming home at the end of next week. We have most of our things out of the condo. We will be long gone when they pack up their things to take south.
Big Bro's thumb is healing. He is using his hand alot more than he was. He say's that it doesn't hurt any more but that it is sensative when it gets bumped. He still has to change the dressing daily to keep it clean and protected.

Betty Boop Thu Mar 08 10:34:57 AM Surprising news on your bro & sis and I sure hope their house there doesn't sell till you are no longer in need of it. I am happy for them though. I know I would be broken hearted if I was told I could not live in FL any more. What is not to love, right?
What color are you doing the great room? I have loved the progress so far. Keep the pix coming!
Did "fer get the box? There was also something for BBCK in there. Reply |

BizB Wed Mar 07 02:14:12 PM Oh, I think there is a place like that over on Woodville rd. I'll look into it.
Yes, the goal is to be able to regulate the airflow to various rooms. For example, the bathroom doesn't need a whole lot of heat. And, BBCK's room could be shut for a week at a time with the door closed. Reply |
sopops Wed Mar 07 12:47:01 PM That looks like an old style vent cover, do you need to have them so they close? I don't remember if your area has a house salvage type place where they clean up parts and resell them, its worth a try. Reply |
BizB Wed Mar 07 12:19:12 PM I'm trying to find 10"X14" register covers that don't cost a billion dollars. I took that picture to show a friend what I'm searching for.
I think I'll end up making the openings smaller and buying cheaper/smaller register covers. Reply |
Betty Boop Wed Mar 07 10:46:41 AM So - what are you telling us about your filter? Reply |
BizB Tue Mar 06 10:25:28 AM He called me and asked me if I had anything planned for his Bday. I told him he's married now... that's his wife's job.
I might buy him a present... maybe. Reply |
Betty Boop Tue Mar 06 10:16:50 AM BIZ - I hear you woke him at 8 and then I had to go and do the same thing at 8:30! A poor birthday boy just can't get his beauty sleep!
Larry & Virginia are coming over from The Villages today - did we tell you they bought there again? Anyhow, POPS can't travel that far yet so they are coming over and we will have lunch together. Company is needed once in a while so we can get the house straightened up. Hopefully we will get over there before they go north. I love the restaurants over there.
Are you doing a cake etc. for the boy this evening? Reply |

MRS FROGGIE Fri Mar 02 11:07:28 PM Biz came over again tonight. He and Newbus are laying the tiles now that they have finished pre-cutting them. LOOK's GREAT. We'll get pictures later.
Big Bro had his bandages changed just now. The top on the thumb that was sewed back on has turned very dark in color. Were not sure if that is a bad thing or not. The next Dr. appointment is this Wednesday. Big Bro told me that it is not oozing or feel like it is infected. If it doesn't take the Dr. said that they will move skin and nerve from his index finger to fix it. If it works he will still have feeling on the top of his thumb. More later.
Hey BBCK, Betty Boop is correct when she said that we could not have done without you. You were very helpful.
I also love the company that you give me. Come back soon cuz I miss you alot when I don't get to see you for awhile.
The water has dried up in the basement. Big Bro made a phone call today to the man who will be comming over to fix the crack. He's doing it this Thursday. It will have to be done before the Monsoon season starts or well be knee deep real quick.
Going to bed. Love you all! Big Bro sends X's & O's. Reply |
Betty Boop Fri Mar 02 04:02:17 PM to BBCk - the house looks fantastic! They couldn't have done it without you either. I am so happy to see all the pictures and can hardly wait until we get there to see it in person.
What are we going to do about our shopping trip if you don't come down this spring? I could send a few dollars to your dad and he could take you but then maybe you would have more fun with your aunt or even your other grandmother - that way you could shop with both your grannies. Let me know what you think.

Betty Boop Fri Mar 02 07:39:46 AM There is no way we can thank you for sharing in the process and we didn't even have to lift a finger to help out either! The work is just amazing . . . it is so very professional looking and you all deserve huge pats on your backs - even the sweeping is unusually well done! We can hardly wait to see it. I am also praying that you don't get any more rain.
Much love to all Reply |
MRS FROGGIE Thu Mar 01 11:15:36 PM (Moved for ease of use)
Hi All, we did alot of cleaning in the basement tonight.
It rained real hard tonight and we had to suck lots of water off the basement floor as it came in the long crack in the wall. Big Bro is spending the night to keep an eye on the water to suck it up as it collects on the floor. We had to spend a lot of time tonight moving things around to keep them from getting wet. After Biz left with BBCK, we were down there for about 2 hours. Good thing my folks gave us dozens of plastic RubberMaid tubs to pack our belonging in. We have stacked all of the boxes and things that could be damaged by the water on them and moved the wood furniture, couches and etc., to the stair end of the basement where it doesn't get the water first. It pools at the far end.
Biz and BBCK came over again and helped. WOW, it is so nice to have them there to help. The company is real nice also. Biz we owe you big time.
BBCK triped and hit a step with her schin. I gave lots of hugs. I told her that I did alot of that when I was young too. She's going to have a bruise there.
Tommorrow I will be working in the red room to finish painting. Yes, the ceiling is getting painted. No more dark plum. It's back to white. Newbus got his carpet down in his bedroom and it looks real nice. He wants to put the bed in and I will not let him. He is so determined to get into his room, so I put tape accross the door opening and a big sign not to put any furniture in there yet. Do you think he'll get the message???? I..... WONDER! He doesn't even have a bedroom door yet. Besides he can't anyhow because we aren't getting our final inspection until this comming Tuesday. The inspector will issue us a occupancy permit then. If there is any thing wrong, it will be a temporary one and then we will have 30 days to correct any issues that the inspector may have before he will give us our permanent one.
The bank is waiting for us to get done so they can do an appraisal. Wish us luck that every thing goes well from here on. We will be so glad when this is all over with. Biz stated tonight that we could spend 40 hours a week for the next several months on the house before getting done with all of the details. I'm afraid he's right.
Big Bro just walked in the door. He said the water has stopped comming in the crack in the wall. Now he can sleep in his bed and not on the sofa, in the cold basement, in a sleeping bag. Poor guy, what a rough road he's had lately. If you are wondering if we would ever do this again the answer is, NO WAY!!!! Once in a lifetime is plenty enough.
It's now way past my bedtime, Good night. Love you all
