An actual exchange on tonight's news.
2007-03-10
Meteorologist ...and don't forget. Tonight, we need to set our clocks ahead one hour.
Anchor Man: Yes, that's true. We're doing it earlier this year.
Meteorologist We are. Congress moved it up 3 weeks in order to conserve energy.
Anchor Man: So, does this mean that it will be warmer tomorrow because we'll have an extra hour of sunlight?
Meteorologist Well, it will be sunny later in the day, so our high temperature will happen later in the day.
Anchor Man: And it will be warmer, too. When we come back, we have a story of a stolen baby in Texas. But first, here are today's lottery numbers.

Thanks for the link. I watched BBCK throw the discus. That should be posted for your family. Maybe long jump too. Some of the kids I don't see very often. It's amazing how fast they grow.

If you want we can compare funks, mine is light blue and midsize with two doors. Not much fun to drive but very reliable. It runs out of gas just about every evening at 11:00. Lately I've had much more trouble starting it each morning. It's best not to arive at work in a blue funk, but lately I've had no choice as my bliss is in for repairs.

My apologies for the lack of recent updates.

I've been in a bit of a funk lately, and aside from 30 minutes of very scary and gusty kiteboarding last week, there really hasn't been much to tell.

About the only good news I have to share is that I bought tickets to the Toledo Symphony's presentation of Bugs Bunny on Broadway. BBCK and I will be going on May 26th. She's super excited about it, as am I.

Reply
BizB       Thu Mar 29 07:32:28 PM
Sorry I wasn't there if you showed up, coach. BBCK asked if she could go visit a friend after practice (someone on the team) and there was no point in hanging around if she didn't need a ride.

Biz, You doing track tonight? I'd like to sneak over for a few while my oldest is at dance. Any chance on getting a look a the meet schedule? Yea, it's tough to watch from a distance. Soccer starts next week and runs through the end of May. I know what a goal is and the ball is black and white. I make a great cup holder.

...even though I really have no good place to put one.

For about 4 years, I have used the flying spaghetti monster picture as a place holder for "picture goes here" whenever I need such a picture. Nobody ever "gets it".

Not only does this religion explain creation, it also solves global warming.

Yes, thank you, I'm feeling somewhat better. The doctor keeps reminding me that I went through an 8 hr. surgery and am now fighting an infection, so I try to remember that when I get discouraged. I'm so thankful your thumb is doing better. I was afraid you'd lose it.

Keep up the good work on that house. What a treasure!

Oh my. I'm exhausted just reading about all the work you have put in on your house. It's beautiful. And to know that you all did it yourselves must be soooooo satisfying. That's a house that should stay in your family forever. I can't even imagine taking on such a project. Kudo's to all of you.

Biz - have BBCK call me some evening after she is done with her committments - I need to find out about her sizes, etc.

BIG BRO - glad to hear things are finally settling down for you and Mrs. Froggie. Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day or even in a year.

Keep her busy and close at hand, and you will not have to worry so much about all those things that could go wrong.

Finished the flooring in the kitchen and the trim in the entry way.

My kid is also booked up with work, and is going out of town this weekend. This might have to wait a few days. I've got the flashing and the tools, but not the muscle to do the job.

Thumb is healing more and more every day. No doubt that it will be a while until things are back to "normal".

With the dogs home and all the rest of the house looking more and more like it's finished Froggie and I are really starting to feel like it's our place again. Thank God.

BBCK's schedule is pretty full this week. If they cancel track practice (Wednesday/Thursday) because of rain, we'll make an effort to get up there.
As of now, she's booked until 7:00 or 7:30 each day.

Just bits and pieces... I've still got the floor in the great room and base board to do in the north half the house. lots of detail work to be finished. Then we can move some more of the pieces up stairs.

Froggie and I tried to bring up her dresser last night, but it was too heavy for her, and almost too much for me too, what with the strain lifting puts on my thumb. I can see why the doctor said to not do any heavy lifting.

I go to get the flashing after 3:00 today for the front door. I had it bent by a place out on Renyolds road across from the Jessie James Plaza. I pray that it fits. I had a bit of guess work to get it sized. Would you be willing to come up and help old "Thumbles" with this one evening this week? I'll check to see when the kid is available to help too.

Besides Froggie misses BBCK anyway!

The flooring needs to be done prior to the appraiser getting here and reviewing the value of the house. I've got to finish the base board and door trim in the north half of the house. Then we have to eventually move the furniture back up stairs to actually live like normal people in the house.

We will be having a huge party when this is done. It will be one where we ask everyone to bring something and have a potluck buffet with all the people who have added to our experiance that I can assure all involved was once in a lifetime.

the water leaking in was not extensive when I looked at it. the floor does not need to come up, but the door does need to have the flashing installed. It seems to leak any time we get a driving rain out of the east. I'm going to get the flashing today. I plan on taking care of this sometime this weekened between rain showers.

I went to the Doctor's office about the thumb. I don't think that I've ever been so nervious about getting stitches taken out. The doctor removed the stitches and started triming the dead outer skin away in just one spot, but stopped after about two snips. He said that the trama doctor had done a fantastic job. He showed me that I've got nice pink skin under the ugly black dead outer layer. He said that he's leaving it alone as the outer layer was the best natural bandage that we could hope for, and that it would sluff off on it's own in a couple of weeks. More than likely I'll just have to be carefull with my thumb for a couple of months, but everything looks good. He told me to keep doing what ever I've been doing as it's working.

48 X 15... That's about right. You can see the boxes stacked along the wall in the hallway.

When I got there last night, the Foyer was 1/2 done. I did from there to the kitchen. Lots of cutting. Lots of measuring. The hardest part is done - I think. Though, I never thought we'd be pulling that floor up again. There has to be a better way.

coach td: That song is VERY burned in my head. Trust in that.

BigBro: You can't just pull up a section of floor like that, can you? I can't even imagine how you would go about doing that.

When do you plan on doing the door?

Reply
BigBro       Wed Mar 21 11:26:59 AM
Biz

the flooring you did looks even better than what your movie shows. I got a call from Froggie telling me that the front door is leaking along the southern side. The flooring next to the door needs to be uninstalled so I can protect it from the water until the door flashing is properly installed. I've got a supplier for the flashing who is willing to bend it and tell me how to properly install the flashing under & around the door to keep the water out permently. If it doesn't cost too much I'm going to pick up the stuff today.

If possible I'm going to get this done Thursday or Friday if it's not raining. Would you be willing to help with removing the front door and installing the flashing with me and Newbus... I hate to ask again because of all the help you've already given us. The front door is a 2-3 person lift.

Biz, The recorder post is pricless. I have that song burned into my skull from last year. Believe me it will haunt you if it isn't already. Tell BBCK she sounds tons better that my daughter did this time last year. No substitution for practice, practice, practice. Although she sounds much better now, my girl still dislikes any instrument. BTW she now spends my money with a flute.

A note to all who can help...

Froggie and I are in a bit of a fix with the house and the bank. We need to get things finished by the end of the week. period. This means calling in for all the possible help we can get over the next few days. I'm begging for what ever help Biz or Fer can give over the next few days and anyone else who can help that we can think of...

Froggie is calling in help for all those on her side of the family tree too.

We will get it done fast! I know that it will be a pain but we could really use whatever extra hands we can get!

The house is coming along slowly, but is looking very good right now, at least the part that is done... I'm hoping that we can get a room done each day. that's the goal any way. My guess is that it will take a little longer than that. but things are starting to move along nicely.

I get the stitches out on Wed. and will find out if my thumb needs a skin graft or not. I'll let all know.

Newbus and Froggie are fine and all of us have been working like crazy on the house.

Great Gran and SoPops, thanks for the lovely get well card. That was so very kind of you. Biz, your good wishes are appreciated too. That was nice of you. Last year, I decided to have a breast reduction and tummy tuck. Bad idea. The surgeon I had did a terrible job and a couple of wks. after the surgery I developed a hernia which just kept getting bigger and bigger. Soooooo, I saw a general surgeon to have it fixed. He wanted a plastic surgeon to open me up in the previous incision so that a another scar wouldn't reduce the healing. Needless to say, I went to a different plastic surgeon for this second surgery. He cut me in the old incision, but extended it all the way around my back in order to properly lift up for the hernia to be fixed. I'm cut in a complete circle with the exception of about two inches across my spine. I was scheduled for a five hour surgery that turned into an eight hour surgery. I complained about severe hip pain before I left the hospital. This pain continued and actually got worse. Last night, my whole hip was bright red and hot to touch. Fortunately I had a doctor's appt. today. He wanted me to go back to the hospital to open it up and drain it. I asked him just to do it in the office. I didn't think I needed to be put to sleep. It was painful, but my hope is that the infection finally showed it's ugly head and now I will start to feel better. I'm on antibiotics and I suppose its the infection, but I tend to sleep a lot. I feel exhausted. My major disappointment is that I will probably not be chosen for the centerfold of the April issue of Play Boy now.

Big Bro and Froggie - I LOVE your house. WOW! You have all done a beautiful job. So sorry about your finger. I can hardly stand to think of it. OUCH! YOu are all a family of extreme talent.

Great Gran and SoPops, we put a tape in the mail to you today. It should be there soon.

According to PETA, the fact that you eat meat contributes more to global warming than the car that you drive. So to summarize, to cure global warming you should:
1) Stop driving
2) Stop eating meat
3) Turn your clocks back (3 hours?)

On the 11:00 news, the same meteorologist said, "While we'll be setting out clocks ahead one hour, and the sun will be setting later, that doesn't mean that it will be any warmer, tomorrow. It just means that our high temperature will occur later in the day."

It must have been a preemptive comment directed at the anchor man.
