Session 2
2007-03-31
Yesterday, while BBCK was at her step-brother's birthday celebration, I got in my second kiteboarding session of the season. BBCK's grandmother picked her up at 11:45 and I was on the water by 12:30. I had great winds for my 13 meter kite for the entire 2 hours that I was there. I tried a new setup for holding the GPS while I'm riding, but it didn't work as well as I'd hoped. Again, this time, it only recorded a small portion of my tracks.

With water temps in the upper 30s and air temps in the lower 40s, warming up wasn't easy to do. I took 2 small breaks to warm up.

I landed and rode away my first jump, yesterday! It was exhilarating! I was also doing a bunch of small hops off the waves. Overall, it had to be one of my favorite days of riding, ever. This summer promises to be amazingly fun.

Will BBCK be taking part in the mini-meet on Wednesday? If so what events? I need Details!!!!!!!!!! I may be able to sneek over for a few minutes. I hope you'll both be there.
Soccer(including snow during the early game)is good spectating so far. Both their teams won big and my oldest scored a goal. Now if I only knew the rules....

You'll probably like my cat hates you, too. Then, there's stuff on my cat and cats in sinks which are all great time wasters.

Last night, I covered the entire house in white dust by using the angle grinder to cut some "straight"(er) edges on the old walls. Today, I'm going to create a hillbilly header to provide a way to join the plasterboard where it isn't hidden by the surround. I don't know how well that's going to work, but I'm going to give it my best shot. I may end up using shelves/baskets to hide my handy work.

Thanks, this will be a great way to waste time at work. I love the captions on the photos, but the captions in the comments that others come up with for the same picture are really very very good.

How'd the work go? didn't do any cliff stuff?

Much better. She tried to go to work, but they sent her home saying that they were sure she had the flu and had her shift covered. She's now home painting. Who argues with the boss when they say go home???

Since I'm off work tomorrow, I decided to wait until tonight/tomorrow to do any more work on it.

How's Froggie feeling today?

to quote a "hero" from my past...

"Sorry about that Chief"

Not been feeling too well lately, mostly stress avoidance memory lapses would be my guess. I don't actually try to for get stuff, but it seems to be happening a lot more lately than I would like. The stupid thing is that forgetting stuff seems to build up more stress in my life, which is one thing that I could use a little less of.

Catch 22

No problamo, mom.

Well, I'm kind of at a stand still right now. When BigBro went to his inlaw's house yesterday, he brought along all of the stuff that he was going to drop off at my house except for the angle grinder, the plaster-board, the compressor, and the nail gun. So, I'm going to go to his house tonight and visit for a bit.

Meanwhile, I erected some black plastic around the walls of the shower to protect the walls from further water damage. I also bought a shower curtain and shower curtain rod. So, I can still shower as needed until I get it finished.
I've taken care of the mold and the wood is drying out nicely. I think it'll go quickly once I have the correct tools. It's not like it needs to be pretty behind the surround.

This entire house is made out of recycled barn wood. I think all of the boards are petrified. Harder than oak, indeed. That's not a bad idea on the 2X4s to build out the wall.

Those 2x's look like the southern pine we had at 1804 and harder than oak, if so you will want to pre-drill holes for the screws. It may pay you to add some new 2x's next to the old and fur them out to adjust for the double drywall. Stuff in some insulation which may cut down on the condensation in the future. Good luck

Stop up and get the stuff you need. I've got plaster board, 1/2" and 5/8" thicknesses and the angle grinder. about the only thing that I don't have that you might need is drywall screws. you will want to get some long suckers for the two layers.

I've already addressed it with bleach and I have Kilz all ready to go on the wall!

Do you have any scrap plaster-board that I can swipe? I just need it to fill that area that I removed. Unfortunately, there's already 2 layers of plaster board on those walls, so I'll need to bump it out twice as much.

I'd also like to borrow your (can't think of the name) saw that we used to cut the backer-board, if I may.

You were not kidding about having a bit of work to do last night. Watch out for that black mold growing on the walls, it can be a real health problem. Kill it with bleach water, and then seal the wall with some Kilz. I think that they make a waterproof primer for bathrooms.

Fun fun... Home improvement is the bestest type of fun.

I got in session #3 of the season yesterday.

There were 3 kiters and one windsurfer on the water from 1:30-3pm. It was a very gusty day and lots of lulls between gusts. I took 4 hours of vacation time to go ride and even though it wasn't the best day on the water, it was better than working.

If there's no thunderstorms this evening, I plan on riding after work today, too. There's a cold front moving in tonight and it doesn't look like we'll get another warm up for at least a week.
