I have scored a major coup and I have what I consider to be a great idea. However, before I put in a lot of hours developing anything, I want to get feedback from you.

Earlier this week, I was able to register www.[ourlastname].com after watching it for many years. Prior to this, it had been parked by one of those genealogy companies who was offering it for sale at a premium.

Now, on to my idea. I would like to provide each and every [ourlastname] with their own blog space. The url for your blog space would be http://yourfirstname.ourlastname.com. Of course, you would also be able to have an email address of your choosing. I assume you'd want yourfirstname@ourlastname.com, but you're not limited to that.

I understand that sopops and Betty Boop really have no need to log thier day-to-day activities. I mean, we all know that you keep a fairly rigid schedule for lunches and such. However, I would like to keep your minds active and continue to learn from both of you for as long as I can. Since I don't get to sit down with you at dinner every night, I thought that such a blog would provide a great opportunity to pick your brains.

I would like to email each of you a question each week and have you write a response on your blog space. For example, I might ask something like, "sopops, tell me about a time in your life when you remember being cold... very cold." And, since we know that Betty Boop is always cold, I might ask her to write about a time when she felt strong - physically or emotionally.

I've already got some great ideas for an improved user interface as well as a gallery. I also have a great idea for including images in your posts without learning some cryptic language that gets translated into html.

As for the rest of you that share my last name, I could do the same, but I'd like to believe that your lives are busy enough and interesting enough to write about it from time to time.

Please give me some feedback.

well, the storm went through. Last night they told us our low for today was going to be 70 with a high of 73. We woke up to 78! Then, while we were having breakfast, the tiny storm went through and now at 10:45 we have 68 degrees with less than half the wind they predicted. South of here there were tornado warnings but I didn't hear of any damage but it is early yet. Anyhow we are all fine.

Big Bro - we hope you got your door taken care of. Keep us updated! HUGS all around. mom

For sometime now I have thought about putting my memories of what I knew about my family history on paper, so www.[yourlastname>.com may give me some incentive to do it.

Okay, here's the deal.

If you're viewing the page in firefox, it will just display a link to the 3g2 file. There is no way for me to make it so that Firefox will play the movie in the browser. You can right click and "save link as", then play the file locally

If you're viewing the page in IE, then the movie will be embedded right there on the left side. To play it, just click the play button.

If you're using any other browser, I'm not entirely sure what will display. It'll embed the movie, or show a link or ask for a plug-in.

Hate to say it but the movie once again will not open. When I save it to file all that quick time displays is the movie film logo. same with blue e

I don't know what technology will be like in 20 years, but if we could start a living history of our family, I think it could make a great resource going forward.

Imagine having your parents', grandparents', and great-grandparents', aunts', uncles' and cousins' "diaries" at the tip of your fingers.

And, there's no reason to limit it to immediate family. Anyone with our last name, including the Virgina families and those in England, could have a blog on the site.

I think I understand the concept(a little bit). If it is what I think it is it, would give our family ,inlaws and otherwise a chance to visit and see what is going on with us all. Give it a try and see what happens.

I like the idea, but I'd be suprised to see my web site updated on a regular basis until the construction is done. You have all let me know how you've felt about my ability to update the pictures on my web site. Of course not having constistant internet access from home for the last 9 months might have something to do with it.

I like the Idea. How about a master page listing which sites have been updated and when, so that it's easy to see when comments have been posted and by whom.

Well, you could ask me about being cold too, you know - sometimes I get even colder than normal!
