Session 8 2007-05-03 |
Today was another killer day of waves and wind. I got off work at 5 and met the redsky crew for 2.5 hours of awesome kiteboarding. I worked on 2 different things today.Proper stance. I had been squatting instead of leaning back and letting the board absorb the waves/chop. Leaning back is way more forgiving than trying to adjust with your legs/waist all the time. And, it makes setting up for a jump way more intuitive.Jumping without sending the kite There are 2 basic kinds of jumps for kiteboarders. One is where you let the power of the kite rip you off the water and the other doesn't involve moving the kite at all. It's more of an ollie or bunny-hop than a jump. The ollie-style jump is the precursor to setting up for big jumps where you send the kite. I'm well on my way to bigger and better jumps.
I did try a few big jumps and I landed 2 of them. I was told that one of them may have been almost close to "mast high" which is about 8 feet, I think. I can only imagine what it's like for Ryan when he's throwing 20+ footers... for now. I'll get there. Eventually. Here are the tracks from today's session.
