Session 10
2007-05-05
Today promised to be an epic day on the water. And, it was... for 20 minutes or so. We arrived at around noon and rigged our 9 meter kites - in hopes that it would pick up soon. Luckily, it did. I went out first and Ryan snapped a couple of pics before I had an equipment failure. Here, I'm just getting started. The kite has pulled me up out of the water and I'm on my way into the waves. Session 10 I did two jumps (without sending the kite) and got some great height. Then, the nose of the board caught a wave and I went down. When I tried to correct the kite so that it didn't crash into the beach, two of the lines on my kite broke. Session 10

I re-rigged by canabalizing some longer lines and I went back out for a while before the wind got lighter. We stood around on the beach for a while before I rigged my 14 meter kite and went back out. Ryan decided that he'd rather not pump up another kite, so that gave him the opportunity to snap a few pictures to go with my snapped lines. Here, I'm headed out and fairly well powered. I was doing little jumps off the waves during this reach, too. Session 10 Here, it appears that I'm about to turn around and head back. Session 10 And, here I am coming back toward the beach. Session 10 Powered up and leaning back to get ready to jump. Session 10 It looks like I convinced other people to head out. Session 10 I can't tell if this is part of a jump or not, but it certainly doesn't look like I'm riding powered up, so I suspect that it is. The kite's right over my head, so this would have been an attempt to jump using the kite to pull me off the water. Session 10 Yup, that must have been a send-the-kite jump. I can tell because, in this shot, you can see how my kite tends to end up after a powered jump... Session 10 And, with some work, I almost managed to turn the kite inside out. Session 10 Not to worry... All is well again shortly after that. Session 10 Here's a little jump off a wave (without sending the kite). These feel a lot higher than they are. Of course, on the back side of that wave, there's a natural depression that must be at least 3 feet deep (haha). Session 10

Tomorrow looks like it will be windier than today and with any luck, I may have some more pictures to post. Four days of east wind riding waves and swell... I couldn't have prayed for a weekend like this.
