Boston Trip
2007-07-16
Last summer, Tal and I got to visit with friends that we've known for several years. They've become not just friends, but great friends. These are the kind of people that you'd seek out as friends. We didn't have to. We just click with GreenBeans and Law. Since it had been nearly a year since we saw them at GreenBeans's brother's comissioning ceremony, we were invited up to Boston to visit them. GreenBeans and Law, ConEd and Bubba will be lifelong friends if I have anything to say about it.

The trip started at Oh-Dark-Thirty. I had to be at the airport at 4:30 to make my 6:30 departure. I left the house almost on time. I was just a few minutes late. Though, that ended up costing me, in the end. I parked the truck at the long term parking garage nearest the new Northwest Air terminal. Trip to Boston and I took this picture so that I'd remember where I parked. I grabbed my bags and made my way inside. The check-in process went smoothly and I quickly found myself on my way past the security checkpoint Trip to Boston. The plane boarded right on time and I quickly found my seat. During my flight, I found myself in the snarky section. (Snarky - Adjective - Any language that contains quips or comments containing sarcastic or satirical witticisms intended as blunt irony.) We made fun of the SkyMall catalog and the myriad items contained within that should have never been invented. We made fun of the emergency information card. We stopped just short of making fun of other passengers. It was fun and it made the flight go by quickly. When I first sat down, I noticed that there were several small children in the general vicinity of my seat. All of them were under two years of age. I was sure that they would all be crying when we started our approach to the Boston Airport. I was wrong. They were all perfect angels! When it was time to de-plane, the couple that I was sitting with stopped and let the parents with the small children get off first despite the fact that they were behind us on the plane. I thought that was really nice! The kids certainly deserved a reward and at that point, there was no greater reward than getting off the plane quickly. On the ground and in the terminal, I headed for the baggage claim area. Trip to Boston While I was waiting, I sent Beans a picture message letting her know that I was on the ground safely. She called me back and told me that she would meet me at our predetermined spot. After I retreived my luggage, I took the train off the island to the Aquarium stop and Atlantic Ave. Trip to Boston

Unfortunately, it took a few mintes for Beans to actually find me. We were on opposite sides of a building and I was walking away from her while she thought I was walking toward her. Eventually, despite ourselves, we met up. We walked back to her office on the 40th floor. She doesn't have a window in her office, but she has a great view just a few steps away. Trip to Boston Trip to Boston The building that she works in is absolutely amazing. Marble is everywhwere. We dropped off my bags and went to get a bite to eat. At Panera Bread, we enjoyed a couple of pastries and some coffee/tea. We talked to Tal on the phone before she boarded and then headed out to walk around the Faneuil Hall Marketplace (AKA Quincy Market) Trip to Boston. We also saw the Paul Revere statue Trip to Boston. Just beyond that, there was a war memorial with thousands of dog-tags Trip to Boston. Just around the corner from that, is the entrance to the North Church where the lanterns were hung Trip to Boston Trip to Boston.

After we stopped at a bakery to get some snacks for later, It was time to make our way to South Station where Tal would be meeting us Trip to Boston She looked as stunning as ever Trip to Boston After a short sit-down, it was time to catch the train to Beans' house. Trip to Boston We walked from the train station to Beans' house. It's a whole different experience to commute without a car and to actually walk farther than from one door to the car and then from the car to another door. It has to be a pain in the winter.

When we got to the house, we met the baby sitter and Beans & Law's two beautiful children. Bubba, the youngest just turned 1 in May. He's so sweet. His little crooked smile melts me every time I see it. Trip to Boston Beans pushed him around in his car while ConEd, their almost-three year old tended to motor around on his own Trip to Boston We had a lot of fun playing "Gas Station" with the watering can and his Little Tykes car. Trip to Boston

Friday evening, we sat around talking about everything and anything. We played with the boys and just had a great time in general. Tal and Beans went shopping. We ordered dinner and ate at the dining room table instead of going out. It was great. On Saturday, we walked up the pastry shop and got some goodies. Along the way, we snarked on the people leaving a church. Trip to Boston

On Saturday, we did much of the same. The boys enjoyed bouncing on the air mattress before we deflated it and moved it to the office upstairs. Bubba bounced until he puked... literally. No biggie. It only landed on his mom and the mattress. What? She's a mom... she should be used to it by now, right? Beans went to Dunkin' Donuts and got us some donuts and coffee and then she cooked up some eggs. Lunch was left-overs from the night before. There was much playing in the yard with ConEd and Bubba. "Gas Station" was a big hit. That's it for today. I'll write up the rest tomorrow.

Even as a mom you never get used to being puked on.
