Snarky Weekend Continued 2007-07-18 |
Before I go on to tell you about Saturday afternoon and Sunday, I have to share two pictures from Friday.
Now, on to the rest of the story...
Saturday, after our trip to Sugar (What a great name for a pastry shop!), we went back to b33nz and Law's house. Law had scored some tickets to see a Red Sox game and we left for the game at around 6pm.
We drove to Northeastern University and parked in a parking garage on campus and then we caught a shuttle to the ball park. When we got on, we were the only ones on the bus and we picked seats about 6 rows from the front.
The air conditioning was on and the temperature on the bus was about 50 degrees. I was even cold.
Law appears to be sending a message to b33nz, here. I can't know what that message was, but it sure looked like he meant it .
We sat for a few minutes while the bus driver gabbed on the phone. While we waited, a homeless man got on the bus and then a father and son followed. b33nz isn't one to put up with other people's crap and she was tired of waiting. The game was going to start without us if we didn't leave soon (in fact it did.) So, being the no-nonsense girl that she is, she went to the bus driver and asked politely, "Is this bus supposed to leave at any particular time?" That seemed to be enough impetus for the bus driver to hang up and start driving.
At the game, Law filled us in on the history of the park and gave us lots of fun facts, too. The stadium was built in 1912 and it's in remarkable condition. Every year they analyze every inch of the stadium looking for places to put additional seats. I don't know if they've had any luck, but I know that the seats that we had were AWESOME.
We were 11 rows from the field and just behind 1st base
.
Before we found our seats, we found some food. Considering that it was a Major League game in one of the most costly cities in the US, the prices weren't bad. The service left something to be desired, but the food tasted pretty good. We missed a home run by the Sox before we found our seats, but they have monitors all over in the hallways, so we didn't miss it entirely.
Now, having found our seats and oooohhhhed and aaaahhhhhed at how great the seats were, we fed our faces.
Much to Tal's disagreement, the camera also came out
.
I didn't mind
.
Turn about is fair play, right?
Too bad I didn't catch either of them with a mouth full of dog. Aren't they cute?
Not to be out done...
And now, the stadium... To the right of our seats and on the opposite side of the park, there were 2 huge jumbo-tron type screens. Above the one on the right, the signature of the man himself, John Hancock
.
The smaller screen to the left is where they displayed player stats and stuff like that. To our left, first base and the Sox dugout
Directly across from us, The Green Monster. This is the last of the manually operated scoreboards in The Majors
.
Law is a great guide and he's sure to point out lots of interesting things
.
The boxes above home plate sport the park's name and the US flag as well as the Vietnam POW flag
.
The game was good and the Sox were winning
.
During the game, the people in front of us were the subject of snark. Perhaps "Snark" is a good title for the weekend. Along the way, b33nz noticed that the nappy headed ho in front of Law had some kind of bling on her sunglasses. She wanted a picture of it, but couldn't seem to get the right angle. I volunteered to step down a row and snap a picture of it.
The first picture that I snapped was of b33nz, Law and Tal
.
Then, I conspicuously turned without hesitation and snapped the picture of the bling
b33nz died at how obvious I was. One of the guys in that group said, "I think he just took a picture of your boobs!" to the girl with the bad hair and sun glasses.
Then, someone was nice enough volunteer to take a picture of the four of us
.
On the way home, we walked past the spot where the first World Series was played. That spot is on campus at Northeastern and there's a granite home-plate where the original home plate rested.
Ninety feet away, there's a statue of Cy Young.
Cy almost got a kiss
.
Then it got better. Cy may have been this happy before, but it has probably been a long time
.
When we got home, we sat up talking. Law, b33nz, Tal and I along with the baby sitter and her boyfriend. They, the baby sitter and her boyfriend, are good people. I think we finally called it a night around 1:30.
On Sunday, Bubba was first to wake up and Law and b33nz did their level best to keep the boys quiet and upstairs. Bubba sneaked down the stairs and peeked around the corner at us despite their best efforts to let us sleep. When Tal said, "Good morning, Bubba! Come see me!", the boy's face lit up and he was on his way.
Soon after that ConEd made his way down the stairs. We learned our lesson the day before and there would be no jumping and bouncing on the air mattress this morning.
After Bubba's nap, we went downtown to do some sight seeing. I don't know how many miles we walked, but it was more than just a couple. We walked past the Granary and I snapped this pic of Sam Adams's grave
.
Just down the street from that, there's a shopping area where we grabbed lunch - to go.
Then, we went to The Commons for a picnic.
One boy was tuckered out, the other took a nap earlier like a good boy (not that ConEd is bad)
We had stopped at Starbucks to get something to drink. After we walked across the street, Law told us something about that building. I don't remember what. I'm sure it was interesting, though. I did take a picture of it, after all
.
We made our way down the street to the Bull & Finch - the location inspiration for the TV show Cheers
.
We made our way through and around the Commons and saw lots of interesting things. This statue of George Washington is nearly as amazing as the flower bed that surrounds it
.
Though, I didn't take a picture of the flowers. Go figure. Just outside the gated area where that statue stands, I spotted this graffiti. I don't know why, but it grabbed me
.
Among the many DuckBoat tours, there's a gay pride DuckBoat. It seems that they painted it with the rainbow colors for a gay pride parade and because it got so much attention, they kept it that way
Next, Law took us to see the building that houses his Freemason lodge (and several others.) Law is a member of the original Masonic Lodge in the USA.
After our tour of the sights, we went back to the house and grabbed our bags. Law taxied Tal and me to the airport and dropped us off. Tal's plane left from terminal D and mine left from terminal E. After dropping us at the appropriate terminals, Law headed home.
I made my way to the counter to check my bags.
Other than leaving my boarding pass on the counter there and having to go back for it, I had no problems. At security, I was pulled aside so they could check my CPAP (yes, I took it on as a carry on) for explosives. I suppose that's a small price to pay for knowing that my CPAP won't be lost luggage. I found my gate and checked to see if it was on time. There was weather
in the area and there was a strong likelihood that it would be delayed. It was. My 7:30 flight was now estimated to depart at 8:00. I called Tal and told her. She had a similar story. We talked for a few minutes and then hung up to kill time on our own. A little while later, Tal called me to tell me that her flight was delayed even more. I checked the screen at my gate and found that my plane had been further delayed as well.
I could see 2 of the gates at her terminal and I asked her what gate she was at hoping that it was one of those two. I don't know why. It wasn't like I'd be able to see her through the tinted windows. She told me that she was at a gate that I couldn't see. Then she asked me where I was. Something clicked and she asked me if there was a pizza place near my gate. I explained that there was, but I didn't know how to get to it. It was down a long curved hallway that I couldn't locate.
She told me that she was standing next to a pizza place and suggested that I make my way toward the pizza place in my terminal. Wouldn't you know it? They were one in the same! That long curved hallway led me right to Tal! That made the wait for the delayed planes much easier and enjoyable.
My plane ended up landing shortly after Midnight. We sat at the gate waiting for a ground
crew for 20 minutes. No exaggeration. My bag hit the conveyor pretty quickly and I was on to the last leg of my trip.
Remember when I said that being those few minutes late on Friday morning would cost me in the end? Here's why. Parking at the blue parking garage is $8.00 per day. I didn't have time to park there and wait for a shuttle to the NW terminal, so I had parked in the
garage closest to the NW terminal. Parking there costs $17.00 per day. Feh. $51.00 was worth it, but next time, I'll leave earlier.
I got home shortly after 1:00 am and was in bed by 1:40 after paying attention to my pets.
