At kiteforum.com, they recently did a poll on the age of the kiters on the site. The results surprised me a bit. I thought you'd all be interested in seeing how much company I have in my age group (until Sept 1st any way - then I change age groups.)
Age GroupPercentCount
under 16 2% [ 6 ]
16-20 4% [ 12 ]
21-30 27% [ 74 ]
31-40 33% [ 88 ]
41-50 19% [ 52 ]
51-60 8% [ 22 ]
60+ 4% [ 11 ]
Clearly, the sample size is small, but so is the size of the kiteboarding community compared to total population. And, this is an internet poll, so there's no telling how many people lie.

Update. Today, despite the weak wind forecast, Ryan and I got in some 20-meter kiting. The beach was crowded and this just happened to be the weekend of the kite festival. So, we showed them what kites really can do.

Here are my tracks from the day's kiting. This is eleven miles of blue lines and lots of walking back up wind.

Biz, Sounds like a great time. I'll need a full report when you return. I mentioned to BBCK the other night that we might do another Saturday swim/run in August. After today I will pursue another date. It was very humid this morning and we took it very easy. The pool gig went perfect and everybody was happy. I got to meet with one of our regular fun runners mom and had a insightful chat. It'll help in the future. Although most things are none of my business it doesn't mean I'm not curious. Beyond that I am sunburn but relieved that it was a succsess. Out.

So far we have had a great day . . . breakfast at The Island Outpost; then the air boat ride for 1.5 hours. Got to see dolphins play right beside the boat. They are such curious creatures, they come right up to see who is on the darned thing. The trip was FAB and recommend it to anyone who loves nature. I got to see my first frigate bird, lots of pelicans, egrets and ospreys. WOW are those barrier islands special.
Then we met Patty and Pete (another one) in Springhill for lunch and they got to take BBCK for the rest of the afternoon and right now BIZ and POPS are trying to find a beach where BIZ can go kite surfing. I am enjoying a few minutes of just me.
For Big Bro - we will get some of your requested pics when they get back. Promise.

coach td, I did that on the last trip. It's weird to see 500+ MPH listed as the current speed.

I don't think I posted that track online, though. I wonder if I still have it.

I thought you should turn your gps gizmo on for the flight back and map it out like your kite adventures. Maybe for your weekend.

I priced them at meijer here in town, and found that they were in the imported food section, with rice from Japan and Snails from France. And priced like they were flown in on a trans atlantic fight.
I guess that's OK as most maricans could point to where canada is in Europe...

The Toledo lawer was spit out by the shark because of the foul taste in it's mouth, I don't care what he said about what happened.

The "run along the shore" was actually a fairly tedious walk back up-wind. That section of the park along the lake consists of trees, a huge rock wall and then 5 feet of sand (real sand, not that crap that they have on the "beach".) That's to the west of the the jetski rental building.

The wind was out of the Northeast. When the wind drops off, it's impossible to stay on plane, never mind ride up-wind. Anything in that image that goes east-west is walking. The NW-SE lines are the times when I was actually riding.

Biz, the run along the shore looks like you might have been showing off for the croud (if any). Great pics.

Hello to everyone, Don't have alot to say. I wonder what's going on with all? No news is good news so there is lots of no news round here.
It's Bob's 79th Birthday today, so Froggie and I will be going out to eat with her folks this afternoon. It should be a great time in spite if all the old jokes we have to endure.
