MBSP XC Meet

Another beautiful morning for running. We got up at 6:30 and by 7:00, we had collected Bubbles' friend and we were out the door. After a quick stop at Kroger to pick up some bananas and grapes, it was time to let the truck go to autopilot as if there was wind. I swear, that truck better know the way to MBSP by now!
The forecast called for chilly temps and what I would call a light breeze off the lake.
I'm sure that if you asked anyone else, it was VERY cold and WAY TOO windy. Just a few little clouds in the sky... a great day to run.
Again, we were among the first to arrive. The few people who arrived before we did were already setting up. I did a quick walk over to the lake to see if there were any whitecaps on the water. There were, but not enough to get me excited. Bubbles and Bunny were both thankful that I had insisted upon bringing warmer cloths. Bunny probably could have used a hat, too.
A short time after we parked and stretched our legs, The Commish showed up with the tent and we all worked together to get it set up. Now that each of us has done it a couple of times, it goes up really quickly. Bubbles was asked to model for "What to wear to a XC meet at MBSP." There was only one other runner decked out with such warm clothing.
At 8:00, they opened the course so that we could walk around and give the team pointers. I joined them for the first part and then I went back so that I'd be available for the coach's meeting when they called for us.
We have a new runner this week! She only got to practice on Thursday, but I think she did really well with a 155th place finish. I don't recall what Bubbles' first finish was last year, but I am almost certain that it was better than that. If only there were some web site where these things are tracked. Oh, wait. There is.
First up, as always, was the Junior Girls. Bubbles' step sister runs on the Jr. team for St. Charles. Last week, she had an asthma attack and didn't finish. This week, she did much better. She finished! I don't recall what place she got, but I think it was top 100.
I spent a bunch of time running back and forth to/from the finish line where I had set up the camera on a tripod. I couldn't leave it running the whole time because it'll only hold 2 hours of video. That was just about perfect, today. I only had 6:30 of space available at the end of the meet. Between camera attending, I helped coach Shaffer with the Cadet Boys team. They really are a handfull! I gave my digital still camera to Rosemary so she could get pictures of the girls at the finish line. I probably should have shown her how to use the camera, too. I got some pictures of the boys as they approached the finish.
After the boys finished, they opened the course for the PeeWee and Minor teams to walk the course. They also re-configure things a bit because the younger kids run 1/2 and 3/4 mile races - respectively. During that time, I got some pics of the kids back at the tent chillin out after their races.
I also took some quick pics of the little ones as they took off on their walk around the course. And, I caught the Minors as they stretched and warmed up for their upcoming races.
Then, I made a B-line over to the finish line to set up the camera for the next 4 finishes. PeeWee Girls were first after the break followed by PeeWee Boys. I didn't even think about using my still camera until the little ones were done and it was time for the Minors to run. Feh. In any case, I got some great shots of the Minors at the finish line.
Oh! Bubbles didn't finish as quickly as she did last week at Carter Park. Though, to be honest, the course at MBSP is way harder than the course at Carter Park. At MBSP, there is a section of sand and a huge hill right in the middle of the course. Her time this week was 8 minutes and 16 seconds. Now, don't you even think about feeling bad for her! She ran her heart out and she put every ounce of energy that she had into performing at this race. If you don't believe me, check out these numbers.
Bubbles finished the Carter Park race as the 10th runner on her team to cross the finish line.

I made a whirlwind trip to/from NYC, yesterday.
My day began at 3:00 and didn't end until 1:00am, Wednesday. I flew DTW<->LGA.

Tal - if you want a great belly laugh, call 'fer and ask to talk to Miss M. She will give you such an earful! I did that last night and every time I think of it today, I get such a case of happy! What a doll. Actually, this will work for anyone who needs a smile!

I give you much credit for making that damn flight. I would've napped after work and then stayed up all night, but I'm crazy like that.

Did somebody say work harder? Heh Heh Heh. We are going to burn down the park. We have a ying yang situation with the kids this week. A few are inspired (like BBCK) by their improvement. While some are looking for answers why they didn't improve. Either way I expect to see some very fired up cadets tonight. Go Irish.

Bubbles was one of only 4 runners who improved their finishing position at the MBSP meet. Overall, the girls took second place again, but they didn't do it as convincingly as they did in week one.
I asked her today how she was going to improve on that for next week and she said, "I don't know. Work harder?"

Here's the link to the video from Saturday's Cadet Girls race. BBCK comes into frame (dead center) at about 1:44 with a group of 4 other girls that she passes. She goes out of frame at about 1:48.

OH MY GOD! We both wish we could be there to see her run. Please give her one huge, enormous hug from us - might as well lay a big smooch on her too. We are so very proud.
