LSAT experience

My experience at the LSAT, yesterday was not quite what I expected. First, either I misread my initial admission slip, or they moved up the time on me. I had originally thought that the test started at 2pm. When I printed my admission slip on Friday, I found that I had to report no later than 8:30am. That wasn't really a big deal other than that I was leaving coach td in a lurch because I wouldn't be able to help with the XC race. And, this was the first XC race that I would miss since Bubbles started running. I'm pretty sure both of them were understanding.
I dropped Bubbles off at the LCRC and made my way to the UT Law building.
Inside, there were two long lines of people and I joined one of them. At the head of the lines, there were tables where people were checking IDs and taking thumb prints. As we stood there, a lady whom I found out later to be the dean of admissions at the UT law school came walking down the line telling everyone with a hooded sweatshirt or hooded-anything that they needed to remove it. "No hoods!" She called out as she examined each potential test taker. One kid said, "Okay. I'll take it off when I get up there." That wasn't good enough for her. She said, "No. You'll take it off, now. I'm checking now and I'm not going to tell you again."
Once I got up to the table, my named was checked off on a list of registered test takers. My thumb-print was added to my admission form and I signed my name to it before I was allowed to enter the auditorium. Inside, I found that the doors next to the other table where they were checking IDs actually lead to a completely different auditorium. There were two testing rooms, not one. The one that I was in didn't fill completely. There were roughly 60 or 70 people who took the test in the same auditorium as I did. The seats in this room were like church pews and there were tables in front of the benches. Each table was about 3 feet wide and there was about 3 feet of space between the tables. The tables were permanent fixtures, not just put in place for the test. I don't know how they're typically used during class, but if each table is meant for one student, then I suspect that law school will require one to spread out more than one book/notebook/laptop/whatever all at the same time.
The dean of admissions was also the proctor for the test; one of three in this room. She started in almost immediately with the instructions for the test. She had us fill out the ID portion of the answer sheet and the writing sample sheet. Then, she threw us into section one of the test almost immediately. We had 35 minutes to complete each section of the test. When there were 5 minutes remaining, she called out, "There are 5 minutes remaining." That was the only time warning we got until she said, "Put down your pencils." Then, she launched us into the next section. It was very rapid fire. The only break we got was 10 minutes after section 3 of the test.
In my test book, there were 2 reading comprehension sections. That means that one of those sections was unscored and experimental. They use this extra section to evaluate questions for future tests. I sure hope it was the first of the 2 that was the unscored section. I really blew it on that one. The second section, I did much better on. In the logical reasoning sections, I did pretty well... I think. It's really hard to tell. I didn't finish one of those sections, but I only had one question unanswered and I filled in "d" just so I had a chance to score something. There is no penalty for a wrong answer, so it pays to fill in something. In the games section, there were 2 games that I struggled with. That really sucks because the games are all-or-nothing. Either you get it, or you don't. I sure hope my guesses were right on those 2. The other 2 were pretty easy and I believe that I scored well on them. That's the section that worries me the most.
The writing sample was what I expected. They presented 2 options and you had to argue for one or the other. There is no right or wrong answer. They just want to see how well you write and if you're able to use the language correctly. My writing example was to write in favor of a neighborhood association hosting either a self-guided walk, or a 5K run in an effort to increase association membership. I chose the 5K and brought in a lot of good stuff to argue my point. I think I did well on that portion.
I will get the final score on October 22nd via email. You'll have to watch the site or wait for a phone call to find out how I did.

We have some rain today, nice gentle rain, so that is a good thing. It is so needed here. I rec'd a couple of very nice pics. from the Ohio great grands. They are so nice.
