Session 37 2007-10-27 |
Today, Bubbles spent the day with Froggy, so I was free to go play. Unfortunately, neither my stomach nor the wind were ready to cooperate until around 3:30pm. At 11, I made a trip over to Red Sky Toledo to see if he had any pumps in stock because mine is malfunctioning rather frequently. While I was there, not getting the pump because he didn't have any, I started to feel funny. I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was, but there was something out of sorts. I left the shop with the intention of driving to MBSP so I could be among the first ones on the water. The wind was supposed to blow 20-25 all day with the direction shifting from an undesirable SW to a much nicer W and then then eventually to a beautiful NW. All morning, it was crappy, though. I got about 1/2 way there and I started to feel sick to my stomach. I pulled to the side, opened my door and... well... it wasn't pretty. Post nasal drip really sucks. I turned around and went back home where I continued to hurl and drink water and hurl until I felt better. Then, I laid down and took a nap.
When I woke up, it was blowing nice, so I got something to eat and then headed east to MBSP. When I got there, I saw 4 windsurfers on the water and no kites. I pumped up my 12 meter kite and hit the water. At that time, the wind was still out of the west, so the N/S tracks that you see above represent that first run. I quickly realized that my 12 was too much kite for this wind and I returned directly to the beach. I wasn't going to pump up my 9 meter kite because it was just as gusty today as it was last weekend and riding in really gusty wind isn't fun. I stood around the beach watching as Victor made his way back in. He set his board down and started to carry his sail up the beach. Then, his board started blowing/rolling in the wind like a tumbleweed. I would have run to catch it, but he was much closer and he got it under control rather quickly. I met him 1/2 way down the beach and offered to carry his board for him. He accepted and went back to get his sail. He had broken the tip of his board. That's why he came back in. When I asked him how he broke it, he said, "The usual way."
Does that mean that he's done that before?
We both re-rigged and went back out. I'm glad I did. I got in 12 miles of riding and I did some small jumps. Nothing crazy because I didn't have my regular posse out there to back me up. Tomorrow is supposed to be windy again, but I think I'll be a bit more of a dad tomorrow than I was today. |
