Saturday morning, Talix and I got up bright and early to go to the movies. The event was the AMC Theaters' Best Picture Showcase.
I'm not entirely sure who this event is targeted toward. It takes a real freak or a real movie-buff to sit in a theater for 12 hours and watch 5 movies. We, of course, fall into the former rather than the latter. The first movie started at 11:00 am. We arrived at the theater at 10:30 and purchased our passes. Having bought the tickets, we went through the doors where we were given our placards which acted as our all-day passes.
We didn't go get our "free popcorn" right away. Who wants popcorn at 11:00 in the morning? Apparently lots of people did. When we walked into the theater there were already a couple of dozen people seated. We chose our seat about 3/4 of the way up and almost in the center of the row. There was one other couple seated next to us. I probably should have left one empty seat between us. I switched seats so that I was sitting on Tal's right side because the guy smelled like poo. Or maybe it was because he was annoying me with his soda cup by picking it up every 15 seconds. We used my bad ear as the excuse when they gave us a funny look after I took my new seat.
It wasn't long after we were seated that I noticed that the little loop of movie trivia etc that they play was a rather short loop. That same loop played for the entire 20 minute intermissions between each movie.
The "UTIANS WEPSOR" (pronounced: utians wepsor) one became my opportunity to make the audience laugh. During one of the breaks, after "UTIANS WEPSOR" had shown about a dozen times, I yelled "AUSTIN POWERS!" as if I was just able to solve it. That got a laugh. Then, during the long break between Juno and No Country, they did a live trivia quiz for prizes. The theater manager asked about 6 different trivia questions related to the Oscars (mostly). Just as she finished asking one of the questions, the "UTIANS WEPSOR" thing appeared on the screen and I yelled "AUSTIN POWERS!" as if it were the answer to the question that she has just asked. It was not the answer. It did, however, get big laughs.
Eventually, we did go get our free popcorn. We also purchased a couple of large sodas. Later, Tal splurged on an order of chicken fingers. During the "Dinner Break" between Juno and No Country, we walked over to the mall and grabbed a couple of burgers from McD's. So, all in all, it wasn't a good day - food wise.

Awww. That sucks. What a mean little girl. Time-line WTF? That ruined it for me.

Wow. That was awesome. I'm glad it won.

sopops Wed Feb 27 02:20:17 PM As I have little or no interest in most movies, and little desire to go and sit in a theater, I prefer to be able to pause flicks or rewind to re-see a funny part this would not be on my list of things to do, however a twelve hour nap would appeal to me. Guess the grumpy ol'gramps is showing through. Reply
