Friday, we did our second Guy's Night Out. The original plan was to meet at the Outback on Monroe and then head to the IMAX theater in A2. On Thursday, I logged onto movietickets.com to check for availability and found that they were sold out. I even called the theater and the recording thing said there were no tickets available. Feh. So, we altered our plans and decided upon Outback on Dussle Dr., and going to see The Dark Knight at the Showcase Cinemas at Levis Commons.
Then, on Friday morning, 'fer logged onto movietickets.com and found that there were in fact tickets available. Quickly, he snagged 5 of them and we reset our plans to the original. 'fer and Taz showed up at my house at around 5:45 and after a quick visit with Diz and Stupid, we made tracks for the Outback on Monroe. When we got there, we were seated almost immediately. We ordered some sodas and talked about nothing and everything while we waited for Big Bro and Newbus. They hadn't arrived by the time our drinks were delivered, so we went ahead and ordered some appetisers. First, I asked for a bloomin' onion and an order of spinach artichoke dip. Then, I realized that Outback is where they have the seared Ahi Tuna. When we saw the waitress again, 'fer waved her over and she was nice enough to change the order for me. When I ordered the spinach dip, Taz said it didn't
sound like anything that a kid who lived on Kensington would ever order. Wen I changed it to the Tuna, I think it had the same effect. I don't think I got Taz to try the tuna, but 'fer had a small piece. After about an hour of nibbling on onions and tuna, Big Bro and Newbus sauntered in. For the first time in a very long time, all of us were in the same place at the same time.
Dinner was fun. We laughed and ate and made fun of Newbus - like always. He's such an easy target and he takes it all in stride. Taz and I both had burgers. The boys both had steaks and Big Bro had soup and salad. I guess he's trying to watch his girlish figure. When the waitress asked about the check, I said bring it to me all on one. I plunked down the $50 gift card and my credit card to cover the bill. Then, I whipped out a $20 for the tip. Yup... it felt great to treat everyone like that. I only wish I could afford to do it more often.After dinner, we stood outside and chatted while Taz had a smoke. The topic was how we were going to get to A2. Newbus suggested that we follow he and Big Bro back to their house where they would pick up Froggy's car and we'd both drive up to A2. Nobody else was keen on that, so we all piled into my car. 'fer and I were really comfortable in the front. The other three, not so much. After about 30 seconds, Newbus decided that he'd be more comfortable in the back-back. I'm not sure how right he was. I am sure that Big Bro and Taz were more comfortable, though.
Someone found a note in the back seat that Bubbles and a friend had written and then torn into little pieces. Between the Monroe/Alexis on ramp and mile 17, they were working hard on putting it back together.
They got it put together and were able to read it just in time to get out of the car at Cabela's. Taz had never been there, so we stopped so that he could check it out.
I'm pretty sure he liked it. I'd never gone over to the aquarium in the store, before. It's pretty cool.We made it up to A2 with plenty of time to spare. The movie was awesome. It lives up to all the hype. Go see it. Go see it at an IMAX if you can. I was a bit disappointed because the IMAX screen wasn't anywhere near as big as the one at The Henry Ford Museum. It was still bigger than a normal screen, though. On the way back, Big Bro volunteered to take the back-back. He didn't whine about it like Newbus, either. I think we agreed that next time we'd do something like go-carts or bowling or putt-putt (but not putt-putt because it's stupid). |
