Sunday, Bubbles and I went to the NASCAR race at MIS. We left at around 10:30 or 11 with the anticipation of hitting traffic. We did hit some traffic, but not until we were 200 yards from the gate to the parking lot. Usually, we'd hit heavy traffic for the last 10 miles or so. We parked and got in line for the tram which would take us to the entrance gate nearest our seats. Race Day We only had to walk a short way to get to the gate, but we decided to walk around to the area where all the trucks set up to sell NASCAR related goodies. Race Day We shopped around for a few minutes and did some people-watching before we happened upon the Toyota Experience area. There, they had someone doing airbrush tattoos for free, so we got in line. Bubbles wasn't sure what to get, so I suggested "55" since that's Mikey Waltrip's number and my favorite Toyota driver. It turned out really well.

Race Day We got to our seats in time for driver introductions and the normal pagentry that happens before the race. The flyover was weak this year. I was really disappointed. They had a single jet fly over at the end of Oh Canada and three more flew over at the end of our national anthem. Nothing spectacular at all. Race Day This year, they have huge "big-screens" instead of the old leader-board. I really liked the new setup. It made it way easier to follow who was where after they stared the green-flag pit-stops.

The race ended at 5:30. We were in the car by 5:39 and we were home by 6:45. The stands were only about 80% full. I guess that's evidence of how bad the economy is in Michigan. That, and the fact that they pissed off a LOT of people by running last year's race on Tuesday. Many weren't able to make it for that race and they just lost out on all the money they spent on tickets. This last shot is a picture of a parking area that would normally be packed full.

Dont wait to the point where you cant get out use your best judgment and be careful dont forget theres gators in them waters !!!!!!

I just looked at the weather map and we have MUCH more rain to come but at least the wind is from the southwest now and are the heaviest we have had yet although nothing to worry about. They have just declared that shelters will oped at 4 for those who are concerned about being in low, flood prone areas. We will stay put for now anyhow as we are 12 feet above sea level.

b) a hole that a palm tree was in?
c) a swirling mass of hot air that crosses the state.

(hint It can't be "c" because that describes Obama & McCain both)

Good morning all - we had an uneventful night with rain - but not a pounding type and some wind but nothing unusual for us. It is still raining - we have had quite a bit. For those of you who have been here, the drain pipes at our pond are only visible at less than the top half. The pond is filling!! We have had lots more rain and wind though so not to worry. We aren't!! We have books to read and will be very content even if the power goes out. One night a couple of weeks ago, we lost power in the evening so we went to bed with our books and flashlights just like we had to do in the olden days. FUN.

Well we are in the west edge of the storm that seems top not want to hurry, so far we have endured about two hours of wind and rain all contained in the western edge of the storm. My guess is that thru the night time hours we are going to endure a lot of heavy rain and I am more than happy that we live on the top of a hill that is nine feet above the pond so I'm not ready to start putting in sandbags yet. Not to worry about us as it is only a tropical depression right now.
