A few pictures from the first race, last weekend. Here's the write-up that we provided to the school for the morning announcements, too.
XC Carter Park XC Carter Park XC Carter Park XC Carter Park

Saturday, at Carter Park in Bowling Green, St Pat's teams continued the long tradition of strong finishes. The 4th through 6th grade girls fielded 18 runners while the boys put 10 in the start-box. Only K.S. sat out with a broken toe and not being able to help his team hurt way more than the broken toe. The girls streaked past the competition and really made the phrase "Follow My Lead" on the back of their new uniforms obvious to the competition. Q.S. passed all but 14 other girls to bring home a 15th place and earned a ribbon for her effort. L.R. rolled in right behind her as 17th place overall. C.W. was only a few paces behind bringing home 22nd place. M.K. and A.O. were our other two scoring runners, but even that wasn't enough! We had to go to the tie-break runner to settle who got third and who got fourth. B.S. was that deciding runner and she gave us 3rd place by ONE point and put our friendly rival, Sylvania Franciscan Academy, in the 4th spot.

During the boy's race, the usual names were out front with B.R. and C.M. bringing home our first two scoring positions. The fourth and fifth places were secured by N.F. and J.H. A.B. really stepped up his game and stepped right into the third scoring position. These five runners gave us an 11th place finish out of 27 teams. Way to go, guys!

Great talking to you last night!

2 more practices and the championship is on Saturday. The, I'll have more evenings free for me. Though, I'm certainly going to keep running. It just won't be as rigidly scheduled.

I've got four 4-day weekends scheduled to use up my remaining vacation time so I may have some kiteboarding stories to tell. The last time I was out, I was working on that Railey trick again. I landed 4 of them, but they weren't pretty.

We saw our bone man yesterday and he is very pleased with your dad. He didn't thing the surgery would help as much as it did, so fast but dad is great at doing his therapy so that is the answer to it all, I guess.
I had to have a shot in my rt. knee as it was swollen and very sore. The x-ray showed bone on bone there too but not nearly as bad as dad's. There is lots he can do to help me before I reach the replacement stage.

Biz - I just posted "Harvey" again but I really wanted the story to be in the hidden portion. I'll have to have another lesson on posting. POPS work is never done!

You are going to have to help me again to log onto the page. The name & code I used 2 days ago is no longer correct! I wrote it down so I wouldn't have to bother you again. COMPUTERS HATE ME!!! If it wasn't for family, I wouldn't bother with the damn thing.

Forgive. I had to have my host install a backup of the site from 9/22 because two of my other sites were failing.

Same for the family site. Sorry, mom, we lost your Harvey story.

Oh, Rev, you poor darling! We have lots of vacancies here. Folks just can't keep 2 homes going and family insist they come north to be with them. One man came back before his house sold. His family was just too busy working, and with their own life to visit him, so he is back here again. We love him for being independent enough to do what he wanted to do. Also over the last year, we have had several deaths and that leaves their home for sale as the "kids" cant keep the one here going. When we moved here 8 years ago, there were 2 resales and 3 or 4 new ones. Quite a change. Call the movers and "come on down"!

I just met my new next door neighbors moving in today. They have seven children four and younger. They have four yr. old twins, two yr. old quads, and a 4 month old single.

And mom is cute as a button. No one seemed flustered. I figure by next summer we'll be ready for an adult community. lol oh, and they have a young dog too. A Daushhund named Frank. I can adjust. Yes, I can do it. I know I can. Okay, breath in - breath out. yes, that's better. I can tolerate anything, yes I can. HENRY - CALL THE REALATOR. WE'RE OUTA HERE!

For the love of all that is holy, I wish I wasn't so damn busy in my life right now.

3 more races and XC will be over
But, then, it's the windy season.

...and I haven't finished painting the house!

We picked up 2 more Cadet runners, today. A boy and a girl. That's 33 altogether.

We're making do with 4 or 5 adults right now, but we sure could use more parents out on the trails for extra eyes. The kids are getting tired of running the same trails over and over. We do that because they're pretty-much out and back so we can let the stronger runners loose and collect the slower runners on the way back.

The big questions in life are very hard to ask, let alone answer yourself.

it's the simple ones that lead us on to the things that matter to each of us, now that we kids are adults. Your talking about foods brought back some of the best memories.

For me the sound of rain on a metal or (green, translucent) fiberglass roof will put me to sleep in a hurry. The stroking of a cat's fur these days brings back memories of cricket cat, jumping from one footprint in the snow to the next in the back yard. A breath of bitter cold air will bring back the memory of Ringo joyfully running with me, even when it was so cold that ice and concrete made his feet bleed.

Did you grow up with dogs and cats? What do you remember from your bedroom at home, what did you see out your bedroom window?

I vote for stories of when you were young
What did you do for fun?
What kind of toys did you have?
What was Christmas like?
The story of how you met dad.
Where did you go on dates?
How did dad pop the big question?

That's a tough question, mom. There are probably a million topics that you could write on that we'd have no clue about. Some ideas to ponder...

Disappointments in your work-life.
Proud moments as a child, as a young adult and later.
I remember you were in an accident once and ended up in traction in the hospital for what seemed like months. Tell us about that.
How come you guys didn't stay in touch with Tom/Jan when they moved away from the neighborhood? Wasn't Tom an Elk?
Tell us about the differences between each of us as young children and how those traits have carried through (or not) to our adult personalities.
