Again?!?! Whiskey Tango Foxtrot

Last evening, at around 10pm, my doorbell rang. I got up from the computer, told Cadence to sit in the middle of the living room and stay. Then, I went and opened the door. The next-door neighbor was on the porch and he asked, "Is everything alright here?"
"What?" I asked.
"Is everything ok over here? Nothing wrong?"
"Yea, everything is fine. Why?"
"Your back window is broken again."
"What? Really? Which one?"
"The back one, I think."
"First I knew of it. I'll go check it out now! Thanks."

I went out the back door and looked at the window to the kite room that is facing east and the bottom storm window was pushed in at the bottom which happened when I was painting. The neighbor came around the side yard and I started to explain to him that it had been that way. Then, he pointed out the screen and window that were laying on the ground next to the AC unit. Sure enough, the screen and window from the window on the north side of the kite room were pulled from the frame. The screen is trashed. The window is ok, but for the two little plastic tabs that hold it in the track. Again, this idiot was foiled by a window - this time, a locked one. I called the police non-emergency number and reported it. they indicated that an officer would be right out.

At around 11:15, the officer showed up and we had a nice conversation about who was likely to blame for these attempts. Here's the gist of it...

  • Not comfortable with breaking and entering
  • Clearly not done it a lot
  • Someone who probably knows the layout and contents of the house. Likely someone who has been in the house before. The cop asked if I had any drug-addicted family members who were at the end of their rope. Of course, I told him I do, but they moved to Florida years ago.
  • Not a pro
  • Probably a kid
  • Probably lives close by
  • Probably looking for a quick grab and dash - likely to grab stuff like the Wii and DVD player... stuff that's easy to carry.

Today, I went and bought a security camera and mounted it on the garage. It's wired to the PC and streams video to a web address so that I can monitor and review it if/when something happens. I also ordered a wireless security system that I'll install in the next few days.

As I said before, I don't really give a shit about the stuff in the house. They're not going to take anything that's really important to me - unless they're stupid enough to take my kite gear (lord knows where they'd be able to sell that without getting caught.) I just don't want someone coming in my house and going through my shit.

On a brighter note, I bought a set of lights for the bike today so that I can ride at night, legally. Coach TD gave me a headband today that's perfect for keeping one's head warm while allowing the body to properly regulate one's temperature. He also encouraged me to ride on River Rd if I'm going to ride on roads rather than parks. It's wide. The speed limit is low. It's well lit. There's very few intersections with signals.
I also bought a set of long sleeve/long pants compression underwear so that I can keep warm when running/riding. Hell, I'll probably get a lot of use out of those. They'll work well with snowboarding, too.

Coach TD also invited me to partake in a 5K run on Sunday in Pburg. I hadn't planned on that, but I think I could fit it into my schedule without juggling too much. I'll have to ride my bike tomorrow instead of running (because running 2 days in a row is not a good idea,) but that's not a big deal.

I think that sums up my week... for now.

Today, for the second time in 2 days, I stepped on the scale and saw 179lbs! That makes me officially under 180 for the first time in 5 years.

    9 more to go.

The problem with that, pops, is that the normal double-hung window is already locked and stopping this idiot cold. If they put as much effort into getting past the double-hung as they put toward getting past the screen, they'd have gotten in. Of course, now, if they put that much effort into it, they'll trip the alarm and be blasted with 120db siren + activate an automated call to my cell, and the police.

An almost foolproof window protection would be a jam stick at the top of the window. Also put your friendly lion in that room when you are away, she would lick the guy to death.

Not sure how to take the above insult - although maybe you are in fact right. I am addicted to Premarin, my Artritis medications; my allergy medications; my heartburn medications; my daily aspirin - so maybe, just maybe, you didn't lie to law enforcement after all.
Seriously, we are glad you are taking some measures there to catch the villain - it is you stuff and you need to be watchful of it all. Plus, your insurance would go up if you had to report multiple thefts if your stuff.
Good luck with your runs etc.
