First, let me offer my deepest apologies to Taz and his lovely wife (whom needs a screen-name by the way). I don't know why I didn't extent an invitation to you guys. It is certainly not because you haven't been on my mind, lately. I just spaced. I'm sorry. I'll make it up to you for the next show; I promise.

Now, on to my Saturday...

Play + Trimming Party The day started with preparation for the evening's plans. I brought the tree upstairs and assembled it and made it pretty. That's the part that I take the most care with. At one point last night, 'fer called me a perfectionist. He would know, but I don't think he really has any idea that I give up way before I'm satisfied. If I kept at the tree until I was happy, I'd have never made it out of the house for the rest of the day.

Bubbles had spent the night at her mom's house because she went to see A Christmas Carroll on Friday evening. Oh... We're the worst parents ever, too. Bubbles had never heard/read the story before going to see the play. We suck. Any way, since she was at her mom's, I had to go pick her up before dropping her off at the Collingwood Arts Center at 12:00. Unfortunately, it would appear that, in an effort to remain unbiased by watching one local TV station over another, the folks at the City of Toledo department of streets/bridges opted to not watch any weather forecasts. As such, the 2 inches of snow that we got caught them completely off guard. The roads were very icy. I didn't see one salt truck the entire time I was out. It took me 30 minutes to get to Bubbles's mom's house - normally a 10-12 minute drive. Then, it took me 35 minutes to get from there to the theater. After I dropped off Bubbles, I made a trip to Walmart for some new ornaments, hooks, bell-peppers for dinner and some egg-nog. Oh, and I bought a couple of tapes for the video camera which I had borrowed from Bubbles's mom so that I could record the play.

Play + Trimming Party I made it to the theater at 2:45 for the 3:30 curtain. I went upstairs and set up the camera and tried to figure out how to change it from standard play to long play. Just before I would have given up, I got a text message indicating that Bubbles's mom and crew had arrived. I met them downstairs and gave them their tickets. Then, Robert joined me in the balcony to help set up the camera - since he is familiar with it. Once it was all set, we joined everyone else down in the main seating area. We had second-row and third-row seats just by the nature of our arrival time. There was no assigned seating. BigBro and Froggie were next to arrive followed by coach td not long after. Coach td cut it close, too. He was arriving at the same time that I was making my way back to the balcony to start the video camera. No harm, though. he was seated before the house lights dimmed.

The play was wonderful. The kids did such a fantastic job. I'm quite proud of each and every one of them. I'm not going to try to describe the performance as I really hope to have a video of it posted quite soon. I just need a bit of help from Bubbles other dad to get it digitized.

After the play, Bubbles met me in the hallway/foyer in front of the theater and I gave her some flowers. She went back upstairs and changed out of her costume before anyone else from our group made it to the lobby. I went up to the balcony and retrieved the camera and then met everyone in the hall. Eventually Bubbles made her return and everyone congratulated her on a job well done. In the process, somehow, she was invited to spend the night with BigBro and Froggie. I agreed to let her spend the night because... I'm an idiot.

Bubbles's mom asked if I'd transport a couple of her kids back to her house because they didn't have the van (flat tire) and loading everyone into the pickup truck wasn't going to happen. I agreed to lend a hand. Bubbles's mom, her oldest (little) sister and her little brother rode with me. It wasn't until we were 5 minutes from her house that I realized that we were supposed to trim the tree that night and that 'fer and Cookie and Thing 1 and Thing 2 were likely already on their way to my house. The solution was to call BigBro and get them to bring Bubbles back to my house after they were done eating. So, instead of my little immediate family over to decorate the tree, I had a bit larger crew.

Bubbles is signing up for the a February performance with the Teen Company. The shows are on the 20th and 21st. Then, I'm sure she'll be involved in the spring performance with either the pre-teen or the teen group.

Don't expect my new girlfriend to be posting on here. She's not a Luddite, but she doesn't spend a lot of time online, either.

I may get in a night snowkite session tonight. If I do, I'll post an update on that tomorrow.

More than anything, I need to get the family site working.

WHAT, NO PIC FROM LAST NIGHT? I know we saw everyone but I was so hoping for some photos also. I know I ask for the moon and want even more.
It was really great to see everyone last night and to see you were having such fun. Laughter is wonderful and I heard lots of it. Thanks for sharing.

If he's feeling up to it; yes. He has Butch's memorial service tonight and he plans to get his drink on. Can't blame him for that. I just hope he drinks lots of water so he won't feel like he was run over when he wakes up tomorrow.

I wish we would have gotten more snow and less ice. I may have to drive north to get some play time.

I call it Death By Bacon and you can eat it like a burrito, or you can slice it up like sushi or you can roll it in powdered sugar and chocolate and put it on a stick.

I'm serving it to my coworkers at today's potluck lunch.

The original layout of that library was round. My dad was the draftsman for that. I remember him building a balsa wood scale model of it. Watching him build it is burned into my memory. Way cool. Even though much of the original configuration is gone way of expansion I still see it through a young man's eyes.

Nope, that's on a wall at the Heatherdowns branch in the kids-books section.

New downtown library? Do tell.

I wish I could have taken more - and better ones.

The choir concert was better this year than it was last and last year's took my breath away. These kids are great singers!

And, for the record, I didn't invite anyone so everybody and nobody can feel left out.

I just spoke with my sister - they lost power for 8 hours yesterday, had heavy winds, ice and then rain. Today is sunny and okay but it was quite a time in NB too. I feel so bad for all those folks in new England who will be days and days without power, etc.

It's not like I went out of my way to invite Bigbro, Froggie and Coach TD.

I talk to coach td about every other day - if not on the phone, then via email. It was natural to invite him once he asked me what my plans were on a particular day. That day, they included taking Bubbles to/from drama practice.

Froggie called me to find out what Bubbles wanted for Xmas on the day of the final dress rehearsal while I was sitting in the audience. When I called her back - still at the theater - I invited her and BigBro to Saturday's show.

As for the tree trimming. That, as I said above, was supposed to be my little family. If I'd have been less of an idiot, it would have been that way, too.

I am sure that Taz will understand the happenstance of the gathering. Coach TD your summation of the afternoon was great, maybe you and Biz should get together and write a book, both of you have a knack for story telling.
It was fun being part of the family tree decorating. My next project will be to get cameras going for Fer & Taz.

On that note, I must inform everyone that the family site is experiencing some problems and the main page is not getting updated. You will need to check each of the individual blogs by clicking the links on the right side (each person's name).

BigBro has a recent update that isn't on the main page.

I'm working on getting it fixed.

What a lovely story and pictures - see Biz, you won't have to put your memories on paper - they are already here. The family all look great - except what is is about your children that they love to stick their tongues out? I just don't get that. Bubbles didn't do it on stage as far as I could see!! Also, Mrs. Froggy in her Sarah Pallen glasses!! Great job on the tree - and look at all the help you had! From the small to the tall! We loved watching you all at work. Thanks for that.

The play was just part of the experience today. I've never been in the Arts building before and it was intriguing to say the least. I belive it's over 100 years old but it's still cool. Big doors, marble floors and high ceilings were my initial observations as I headed into the main building. I needed to find the little coaches room before hand and that was old school too. No place for big boys to stand up so I had to use one of the water closets. Each one has swinging doors like a saloon! Yes I washed my hands and it was off to the theatre. Along the way I ran into some parents from St. Pat's whose daughter ran cross country with Bubbles and would soon be standing next to her on stage. I got my program and headed into the semi-dark seating area and found Biz. Got my instructions for seating and plopped done next to BigBro. Only minutes before curtain but just enough time for the gal next to him to try and pull a fast one on the dumb coach. Although I couldn't remember the entire sibling lineup something told me I was not being introduced to Bizs' 'younger sister'. Nice try. We just got past that and it was time for the show. I didn't put a stopwatch to it but it was much more than I expected. Those kids had to memorize a ton of scenes and words. I guess there were a few times they improvised with their lines but it even at that they did great. After in the lobby all the kids were bouncing around and hugging still in their costumes and makeup. Big smiles from parents and almost everyone had a camera of some sort in their hand. Bubbles was all grins while scheming up something that I didn't quite catch although I'll bet it it had something to do with supper and a sleep over somewhere. As I made my way out to my van I picked up on the contrasting conversations going on around me. Excited young actors talking rapidly while adult family members said their good byes and wished holiday cheer. All this in the parking lot while we all cleared off the snow on our windshields. All in all a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Do they do this every week?
