Race Weekend

Friday at the track, we had our choice of seats. There were only several hundred people there for the practice and qualifying.
We did some walking around and saw some of the give-aways. Among them was some company that was giving away chip dip. We'd had that dip at the June race and we found that we liked the chips they were giving out more than the dip. So, we went and got some free chips and dumped the dip in the trash.
We also went to the Sprint exhibit which is usually so busy that we don't bother with it. This time, we stood in a short line to do the 3D virtual driving thing. It was really cool.
Then, we did some silly stuff like this car that was cut in 1/2 length-wise allowing you to look like you are sitting in the car - except, not really.
To combat the heat, they had mist stations set up about every 3rd section of the stands. They really do work well. I wish Cedar point would do it like this rather than the fans that blow the mist around.
Saturday, we ended up parking in the lot on the east side of the track and taking the tram mart (the kids didn't like the term 'tram' so they reversed it) over to turn four. We stopped and took a look at a couple of different displays that we hadn't seen or hadn't bothered with on Friday.
Then, there was shopping. Lots and lots of shopping. S wanted to get a hat. There sure were a lot to choose from. And this is just ONE of the driver's hats. They all have their own retail trailers (some have several) with at least as many styles as seen here.
I'm not a fan of the driver she likes, but I do like the hat that she selected.
Tony Stewart, the current points leader, has a stand that was selling raffle tickets for a chance to win a 2010 Chevy Camaro that would be delivered to you by Tony and autographed. Proceeds would go to some charity that Tony supports. In exchange for your donation, they were giving away tee-shirts. $50 tee-shirts! Sig et. al. stood and listened to the guy's speel before walking away without making a donation.
We went back to the car for lunch before the Nationwide race started. That meant taking the mart again. We passed by the tractors that pull the car-haulers for each team before being dropped off not-too-far from the car.
Saturday's lunch was walking tacos! The kids sat in the air-conditioning most of the time we were at the car. It was just too hot to do much else.
When we returned to the track, we walked under the bleachers as much as we could - to stay in the shade. The kids each got a "Chill" (frozen lemonade) and we made our way to our seats. And, they were really good seats. As you can see, the stands were a bit more full for this race, but still not as many people as would attend on Sunday.
At one point, Elmo (formerly known as M on here) got tired enough to use mom as a back-rest/pillow. I remember those days. When it was all over, #88 won the race because the first and second place drivers were too busy battling each other to see the #88 coming up to take the lead.
Sunday, we changed the schedule a bit. Since there no additional activities we didn't arrive so early. We ate lunch before going over to the track. Sunday's lunch was shrimp, crackers, peppers, and cheese - for Bubbles and me. Elmo and S had something else. Sig didn't eat. Like last time, there was football tossing to kill time.
We took 15 bottles of water in a soft-sided cooler and we each carried a bottle on the trip to the track. We still ran out of water! I can't imagine having to buy all that water at $3.00 per bottle. There were fountains around the track, but the water wasn't very tasty. And, filling the bottle required great skill!
Sunday's seats were almost as good as Saturday's seats. We were closer to the end of pit-road and a bit lower in the stands. I'd sit there again. No doubt about it!
There was the standard fly-over after the national anthem. This time, it wasn't the 180th Fighter Group. Instead, it was four tank killers! My favorite plane... the A10 Warthog.
After about 8 laps, we started to feel rain drops. At 9 laps they red-flagged the cars and pulled everyone onto pit-road. We ducked under the stands to stay dry. I think it stopped raining about 3 minutes later. The track was dry in no-time and they were back on the track.
Brian Vickers won the race because Jimmy Johnson ran out of gas. Mark Martin, who benefited from other drivers running out of gas, also ran out of gas. What comes around goes around, I guess.

Yeah, I'm not sure why that happens. Along the right side of my wall, I see a collection of pictures and some of those pictures were posted by friends of friends. The person who is on my friends list is tagged in those 3rd party pictures, so that's why Facebook is showing them to me.
I think that's bad of Facebook.

Oh, no, I just remember where I thought it was a bit insecure....I have sent my friends pics of us and THEIR friends have seen me there and made comments. This was just an AAHHAAA moment. So that would be very bad to do, right?

Checked back to your comments and I discovered something I was wrong about -- AND DON'T TELL MY HUSBAND I SAID THE WORDS, "I WAS WRONG!" In my mind as I was thinking of FB without really having it in front of me, I was thinking that anyone could read the stuff on my wall but I see now it's only those I've accepted as friends. I was thinking that friends of MY friends could see what is there. I finally get it. I must be a slow learner.
Anyway, when H tried to discontinue FB, he was to type in those letters they have you type and he could not read them, no matter how many times he tried it. But, when he chose "standby" the letters were clear enough to see. Amazing that the very next day was when we heard about that on the news. It was on Fox, I beleive.

I appreciate the opportunity to discuss this, rev. It's an important topic and I'm VERY glad that you brought it up.
I NEVER tag photos on Facebook with anyone's name because I heard that Facebook allows some company to harvest photos based on tag names and save them. Then, that company can later sell those pictures if, for example, someone were to run for some public office.
Imagine, 30 years from now, my daughter decides to run for a seat in the House of Representatives when all of a sudden, some picture emerges from 20 years earlier when she was in college and doing things that college kids do... like binge drinking. That can happen if someone were to take a picture of her drinking from a pitcher of beer and post that picture on Facebook tagged with her name.
Facebook does offer quite a range of privacy options. For example, if you're not an accepted friend of mine, you really can't see anything about me. You can't see my wall. You can't see my pictures. You can't see my profile information. Really, all you can see is the city where I live, my name and my profile picture. Sort of like this random person that I found. If you don't have yours set up that way, I suggest that you go into your settings and change things a bit. There are some pretty good help/faq pages on facebook, and I'm sure 'fer would help you if you're unsure. Heck, I'd even come over and help you after one of my bike rides. I have ridden right by your house a few times, now.
Our world will be dramatically different in just a few years and privacy concerns will become more and more prominent for Internet users. There are already too many ways to harvest valuable information about your online activities. Tying those online activities to your offline activities will provide a complete picture of who you are. The ways that this information can be used has barely been explored so far. They will find cunning and devious ways to make that valuable information pay for them. That, I can promise.
By the way, I've missed you around here. I'm glad you stopped back.

Thanks, Biz. I appreciate the info. One more question, though. When my friends view my page on FB, they can see all the pictures and names and posts there. They can't get into the other person's page without permission, but they can see what has been posted on my page by others. Names are there, too. That would be unsafe also, right? Again, I'm hoping not to sound argumentitive, because truly, I'm just dumb about this stuff and trying to understand it. lol I probably never will. I have friends I've accepted from work, etc. and someone on the news was just talking about people who break into FB. My hubby tried to discontinue his FB and it wouldn't let him. It did let him take a break from it, but not discontinue. This was just on the news last week and it had just happened to him. I guess if someone wants info about you, they can get it, but I see that you don't want to make it easy for them. Thanks again for your patience. Have a good weekend.

There is nothing secure about my site. Anyone can view and save pictures contained herein. Anyone can read the content here.
I decided a long time ago that I would not allow real names to be used on here after I looked at some of the search phrases that bring people to my site. You see, when you search google, or any other search engine, and then you click a link to access a site that was returned in that search, the search engine lets the site owner know what terms brought them to your site.
For example, if you were to search on Google for "Funny Cat Pictures", you'll see that the first link returned is icanhascheezburger.com. If you click on that link, Google tells icanhascheezburger.com that you searched for "Funny Cat Pictures".
Some of the disturbing phrases that brought people to this site included such things as:
Kids in diapers
naked baby pics
little girl in bathtub
pretty little girls
naked teens
Now, I don't know about you, but I don't want someone who stumbled upon my site by searching on google for "little girl in bathtub" to have ANY way of knowing my daughter or granddaughters' names. Because, with a name, they can get an address. With an address, they have access.
Can you just imagine someone approaching one of the girls and saying...
"Hi {insert real name here}! I'm a kiteboarding friend of your dad/pappy. He asked me to come pick you up and take you to his house over on {insert real street address here}. Come on! {Insert dog's real name here} really misses you! She wants you to take her for a walk. Climb into my car."
Not something that I even want to imagine.

Haven't been to this site lately, but checked it out this morning. This isn't meant to be a rude comment, just don't understand the "why" of it --- When children's pictures are printed on here, probably without parental permission, and names (first and last names)and profiles are all over the net on MySpace and FaceBook, why is this post so much more unsafe than the others? I know on FaceBook, anyone who writes on a friends wall has their picture and comment on my page. Anyone can find anyone on the net if they really want to do that. Fer explained it to me once, but I don't remember the answer. If "Sherry" was typed in for me, I don't think anyone whould know who that is, with the exception of those who are allowed to be on here, right? I probably just don't understand how it works. I know on the net I could find most anything about anyone. Thanks. In my opinion, the pics, names, network area, etc. are more revealing than using my name of Sherry on your secure sight. There is nothing secure on FB. That much I know.

You are 100% correct Big Bro-it was Myrtle Beach that had a squadron of the wart Hog the slowest jet sometimes but when taking off would blow your socks off. I believe they sent them to Gulf war one in 91.

the 180th out at the airport had the A-7 coursair, not the meaty A-10.
The A-7 is what John McCain was flying when he was shot down over Vietnam, a little older bird than the A-10. The A-10's were all front line aircraft in Germany poised to stop the Soviet Tank columns in the late 80's. Thank God we live in simpler times now..... All we have to worry about is perpetual war and health care.

Someone is conspiring to keep me from my goal of working out in the morning rather than the evening. Last night, I didn't fall asleep until 4:30 am. I started out too hot and then, by the time I was cooled off, I caught my second wind.
I'm going to run at lunch today.
Tonight, we have an optional XC practice because it's meet the teacher night at school. I'll run again, then.
Tomorrow morning, I'm riding the bike - come hell or... well... I won't ride in high water, but you get the idea.
