Great Escape
2010-01-10
Saturday, we decided to blow some money and go have some fun. We'd been looking at going to a place up in Howell Michigan called Great Escape since late last summer when we saw a coupon in the Entertainment book. Great Escape promised indoor electric go-carts that average 28 mph, bumper-car basketball, mini-golf, and a large arcade. It was about an hour and 15 minute drive and we arrived at about 5pm. It was a lot of fun!

The go-carts were really cool. They were able to control the speed of individual carts using a remote control. So, if you were driving recklessly, they'd slow you down. If you were doing well and seemed to be bored, they would bump your speed up by a notch. They tried to keep it competitive and still keep us from bumping into each other... mostly. Each race cost $6.00 per person. We raced three times. We got 2 free tickets, though. One of the free tickets was handed to us by someone who was leaving and had no use for it as they didn't live in the area. The other free ticket was from the Entertainment Book.

We played one round of golf. It was a fun little course with a giraffe, a zebra, a gorilla, an alligator, an elephant, and various little tiki dolls decorating the course and providing obstacles on the holes. The finish order was:

  • Me
  • Sig
  • Queen Powerfoot
  • Bubbles
  • Elmo
Elmo had two really bad holes. There was only 6 points separating my score and his.

We also spent about $30 on video games.

It was a great time and we'll likely go back.

It was like camping out only no bugs, we played Crip and Rummy 500 by lantern light and went to bed to read by flashlight.

BRRRRR!
We're supposed to get highs above the freezing mark this week/weekend! If we could get some wind to go with those balmy temps, I'd be a happy boy.

P.S. I went to Westgate Dental Arts again yesterday for my final casting for the next set of dentures. I really hate the gagging part of the casting, but I'm excited for the new teeths!

Next steps:
A bite impression
They set the teeth in a wax mold and have me try them on for fit, look, and feel.
Final dentures!

I have to tell you about our yesterday. We woke up to a record setting low of 18! We started our breakfast around 8 and then, at 8:10 we lost power. We had no power all day and we froze our butts off! We went out in the car a couple of times just to warm; for lunch and to check on R&R. We were first told power should be back on by 3p.m. but that was a no show - we met R&R at Pizza Hut for something warm to eat (R&R had power at the campground). We came home and started up our space heater for the porch (Kerosene)in the living room. About 8p.m. a deputy told us they were not sure when it would be back on but that he would be in the area until it was on - we bundled up and crawled in bed. Since I had been awake since 3a.m. it was easy for me to fall asleep but apparently we got power at 9:50 dad says. Puppy was so good and wore his sweater all day and stayed bundled up on my lap most of the day. To think it is the same temp there today is rather disconcerting to say the least. We cam here to be warm. Off to the MD today for annual checkups.

Before I close - your day at play looked like a nice day indeed.
