I can live with that 2010-03-09 |
Sunday morning, I left Sig's house to go home after a nice long, warm embrace. I loaded up st00pid into the car and headed home via my normal route. As I approached Detroit Avenue, I moved over to the left turn lane. The light was green and the only oncoming car would pass me before I even entered the intersection, so I didn't slow down much.
As the oncoming car passed, I heard a metalic sound and I saw a whirling blur in front of my car. As I focused on the object, time dialation took over. The object hovered in the air in front of my car. It was about 20 inches long and about 4 inches wide and it was spinning like a helicopter and headed right for my car. I didn't even really have time
to hit the brakes. The steel plate hit my hood about an inch inside of the headlight and a few inches above the bumper.
From there, it appears to have hit the bumper flat on its wide edge. From there, it went flying all the way across S. Detroit and landed in the Rite Aid parking lot. When my heart started beating again, I made my turn and continued home.
Once there, I counted my blessings and called Sig to tell her that I love her.
It was a leaf-spring from an old car. I stopped back and picked it up, yesterday.
Had I left a few seconds later, that thing could have crashed through my windshield and done some real damage. Intead, I have a dented hood and some scrapes on my bumper. That, I can live with. |
