Mardi Gras Cake
2011-03-06
Today, Bubbles and I decorated a Mardi Gras cake for her Mardi Gras celebration at school. Whe wanted to do something "super cool". I think we accomplished that. We started with confetti cake which we baked yesterday. Then we added white frosting between. We stacked the cake rounds and frosted the rest with purple icing which we mixed ourselves. While we waited for the icing to firm up a bit, we made some cookies shaped like masks. While the cookies cooled, Bubbles wrote "Mardi Gras 2011" on the cake with yellow icing. Then, she added some green highlights. Next, she decorated the mask that would adorn the front of the cake. We decorated the cookies and added coins to the cake. The cookies were attached to the side of the cake, and added to the bottom of the box. The finishing touch was the purple star-garland.

Bubbles said this was a competition, but the clear winners are her and me. We have so much fun doing goofy stuff like this.

Oh, and here's a picture of one of my visitors this evening. I read The Yellow Cat to them, tonight. They liked it.

I'm not using it as a reader, really. I hacked it and installed Android CM7 on it. It's basically a fully functional tablet at this point. I use it for note taking during meetings, playing games, and... yes... I even installed the kindle app on it so I can read with it.

It does have one feature that the kindle lacks. It allows you to read white words on a black background, which is nice for reading in the dark.

How about a review on the nook color reader, compared to the Kindle. I have no need for color as my reader does the job fine for me.

Thanks for the casino pic, if I ever get there I hope that I still have a nickel to play the slots.

My resources aren't stretched nearly as thin as were yours. You did a great job given the working conditions you endured.

We won! Our cake was one of three selected as "winners". The prize certainly didn't cover the nearly $40 I spent making the cake. But, as I said... I already won.
