I found my motivation in the form of my 15 year old daughter, today. She encouraged me to get up and go to the gym where I did 30 minutes of standing climb effort on the spin-cycle followed by far fewer laps in the pool than I thought I would do.
Those of you who know me can identify with just how painful this must have been for me, with an average cadence of just 68. I think I shall dub this Punishment Sunday.
And to think swimming used to be a strength of mine. Now, at the age of 46, I struggled to do 1/5 of a mile. I swam the first two laps hard and then realized that my heart was racing, so I slowed down and did a couple of back-stroke laps before returning to a breast stroke. Ended up doing 8 laps. Next time, I'll shoot for 9 - all breast stroke.
Today's learnings (so far):
I can hold my heart rate in the 170+ range for 20 minutes while "climbing" on the spinning-cycle at the gym
I can't swim like I used to
The longest recommended time in the sauna is 30 minutes (I did 10)
My Sedio-protected Samsung Galaxy S III is just fine in the sauna
Toledo was a bicycle manufacturing mecca in the 1880s.
The first shower stall at LA Fitness has better water-pressure than the second.
I'm tired. |
