1) I have an addictive personality and I become obsessed with things like this

2) Nobody new is joining and there are too few active Enlightened players in this area -- Due to the lack of players in the area, I tend to personalize it when one of my portals is attacked

C) I don't always use numbered lists

4) The game has some serious structural flaws - as follows

  • It's nearly impossible to defend when a portal you own is attacked
  • There's no point in defending - you don't get any AP for defending
  • There's a serious disconnect between the global game and the individual game. Gaining MU doesn't gain you AP. The best way to gain AP has nothing to do with gaining MU
  • As a level 7 player, I get just as many AP for crushing a L1 portal as I get for taking over a L8 portal
  • In an area where there are higher level players, it's nearly impossible for a new player to get AP without some sort of mentoring program - or a designated training ground
  • Level 8... then what?
  • Shields don't really do much
  • There's no point in creating links or fields other than the AP they provide. They (links and fields) should contribute to the defense of a portal such that - for example - players of the opposing team should need to work as a team and attack all three portals making up a field at the same time in order to destroy those fields
  • The COMM sucks
  • The intel map is not integrated into the scanner
  • There's no team-chat integrated into the scanner
  • There are no app-based notifications when a portal you own is being attacked - not that you can defend anyway
  • I only get 10 AP for recharging. However, if I let my portals decay, I can get 100 AP for hacking an Enlightened owned portal

    V) I'm taking on a new role at work and I'm probably going to work more

    6) Gas prices

    7) Once it warms up, I'll spend more time on my bike/kite and less time looking for things to do

    8) I'm going to make an effort to pick up another programming language/platform that will help to position me for career advancement short, and long term

    Well Son, I had been wondering the same things you addressed here and on FB. I have also had this addiction to items in my lifetime that involved hours not well spent ie: the Elks. I was glad to hear you have other challenges at work and wondered what was involved, is it a promotion? We will call you some evening this week, what night would be best.
