Okay, I know this is late, but who wants to spend their first day of vacation doing exactly what they could have been doing at home? Here goes nothing...
Day one of the trip I drove from Toledo to the middle of Kentucky. Before I left, I stopped at CrackerBarrel and picked up a book on audio. I selected Harm's way from the titles they offered. If you've never tried books on audio for company during long trips, I strongly suggest it. Time flies and you get so absorbed in the story (if it's a good one) that you get lost in the time that passes. When I stopped for lunch just north of Cinci, I realized I was in SoccerMomLand. In line at the McDonalds there were 3 SUVs - all of which had ribbons-a-plenty The trip was without event until I got to Cincitucky. There, just over the bridge, a truck had taken out a light pole. As you can see, the truck appeared to have climbed the median barrier and then struck the light pole . It's amazing how far from the light pole he finally screeched to a halt . The picture here doesn't show it very well, but the truck's tires were pointing in opposite directions... both turned inward . Chez Bigdog - - my resting point for the night. John was a great host and cooks up some mean vittles. Here, John was explaining to Nick that he couldn't fathom why Nick needed to have 15 different lights turned on in the house. ... "I don't understand how you can have FIFTEEN lights on in the house when we only have 8 light bulbs!" And, a picture of Nick playing on the computer. He's growing like a damn weed. Day 2! The final leg of the trip. Today's book on audio selection was The DaVinci Code. What a great book! Just before I got to the Tennessee border, I spied a lake with about a thousand billion million fingers Then, I crossed the dam that created the lake and set off into the wild hills of Tennessee. Tennessee... what can I say? The land is as beautiful as West By God Virginia. The people, from the 2 encounters that I had with them, were just as nice as could be. The "neighborhoods", however, left something to be desired. There were countless times where I had the desire to stop - turn around - and take a picture of some house that I had just passed. Some were very nice... plantation like homes. Others... well... the term Redneck comes to mind. At one spot, I did stop because it struck me as quite the contrast. Here, we see the house on the left side of the street. . And, here, directly opposite and serving as the "view" for that house, we can see their neighbor . And then... Georgia. Every time I've been to Georgia, I've seen this . I think the taillight should be on Georgia's flag.
Okay... that's it for now. More updates as I take more pictures. It's great to be with Mom & Dad again. |
