What a great time! Yesterday, as I mentioned, I went snowboarding at Mt. Holly in Michigan. The weather was almost perfect with temps in the 30-33 degree range. There could have been a bit more sun though. With the gray overcast clouds, it was difficult to make out any contrast on the hills. Start: I started on what you might consider an intermediate hill. Looking at the trail map, it would be the trail that starts out at the top right and curves around with the sort of dog-leg about half way down.
I did two runs down that trail getting my feel for the board and the new boots and the corduroy groomed snow
as seen in this picture (each of those groves is about 3/8 inch deep). I fell a couple of times on that hill, but I felt comfortable enough to try one of the bigger (read steeper) hills. It would seem that the reason for my falls was that I was carving too hard and slowing down too much. I found it much more easy to carve on the bigger hills and keep speed.By the end of the day, I was feeling quite comfortable with the board and the snow. On my last run, I even went up on one of the little trick-side-hills. Unfortunately, for the last two runs, there was a feverish little snow squall blowing through and it was hard to keep my eyes open all the way to see where I was going. Goggles and snow-pants would be a good investment. I'll definately be going back. For $12.50, there aren't many other things that you can do and have so much fun with your pants on. About the only downfall to the sport that I can pinpoint right now is the ride home. I'm glad I didn't have to drive because I was so tired. Mt Holly is about 80 miles away and the trip home was long. |
