Four Eyes
2005-02-01
I need glasses.

Today, I had to go back to the eye Dr. to get my eyes dialated. When she was done examining me, she said that my eyes look healthy. Then, she asked how well the drops/exercising are going. I told her that I've been doing the drops 3 or 4 times per day and taking breaks to look out the window every now and then. I told her that I had turned my desk so that my monitor wouldn't be catching glare from the window any more. I told her that I pushed my monitor back as far as I could get it to go without wondering if it was going to fall off the desk.

...and my eyes still bother me quite a bit.

She said that she was afraid of that. She explained that she wanted to use the time between my first appointment and second to see if I could get by without the glasses. She was pretty sure that I would need them, but wanted to try alternatives.

So, I sat down with the person who fits you with glasses and discussed (again) alternatives (where I payed attention this time) and I even put on a few pair. Because my eyes were dialated, I really couldn't make any real judgements, so I'm going back another day.

Not quite yet. The glasses won't be in for 7 to 10 days.

As soon as they're in though...

The real solution is to reformat your hard drive, install windows and never ever let realplayer see the light of day on your computer ever again!

Yeah... just watch it on Mom's computer.

You worked for yourself for the last 20 years. If you wanted to tint a window, you were the one to decide. That's what I was getting at.

I work for a big corporation that has people to come and change the batteries in my phone. Tinting a window is not an option.

I for one hope that nobody licks my glasses.

OK you got my Irish up. To Quote Biz "I told her that I had turned my desk so that my monitor wouldn't be catching glare from the window any more. " Now all of a sudden the window is not there anymore. SOPOPS has only been out of the corporate loop for 5 yrs and ran a state of the art drafting firm fully computerized. Our biggest enemy was the overhead fluorescent tubes which produced more glare than anything else. Our answer was to turn off overhead lights and work with side lighting on reference drawings when possible. In other words we did our best work in the dark. Another trick was to put a cardboard shield above the monitor to cut down the glare from overhead lighting.
Now that is off my chesy I love ya still.

Tint the windows... Can you tell that it's been almost 30 years since SOPOPS worked in corporate America?

accomodative spasm... that's what the eye dr said I was experiencing.

Make sure you get anti glare coating on the glasses. You can get glare stoppers for computer screens and yours isnt that big so it wouldnt be that expensive. Another thought would be to get some window tinting film at an ayto supply store and tint the office window where it bothers you most
